DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL

Description

The Direct Support Professional is responsible for advancing the PLS mission to empower people to unleash their unlimited potential by providing a safe, supportive environment where they can take charge of their lives, learn new, more productive behavior, pursue their dreams and live healthier, happier, more independent lives.

Definition: The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for the supervision of adults diagnosed with psychiatric, developmental and behavioral disorders living in residential settings. The Direct Support Professional position is specifically responsible for engaging clients to participate in activities, as well as teaching and assisting them in activities of daily living. A Direct Support Professional is active in participating and planning activities associated with enhancing the quality of life of the client, giving input into and assisting with the implementation of the clients treatment plan and creating an environment that provides for the clients safety and welfare.

In addition to the client focused job duties, the Direct Support Professional is responsible for assisting the Program Management with the overall management and administration of their assigned program(s) The DSP takes the lead responsibility while on duty as assigned by the Program Manager and Assistant Program Manager. The Direct Support Professional will assist the management team with delegating approved tasks and supervising the completion and accuracy of these tasks.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Requirements: 

Must be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Must have good communication skills and an ability to work directly with adults diagnosed with psychiatric, developmental and/or behavior disorders.  Must have the ability to follow policies and procedures established by Productive Living Systems, Inc; ability to plan and organize activities within the home and the community; ability to assist clients with daily living skills; ability to offer support to the clients we serve with minimal supervision and the ability to respond to stressful situations (act/react).  Must successfully complete all regulatory (DHS 83 and 88) and PLS required training within 90 days of hire and must be in compliance with Continuing Education Requirements.
