JOB SUMMARY
The Physical Wellness Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Project Vida’s wellness services and leads the physical wellness programing for the Mind, Body and Soul Health and Wellness Circle. The Physical Wellness Coordinator leads the development, management and execution of physical wellness programming focused on nutrition, physical fitness, dance, performing and creative arts specifically crafted for black, gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (Black GBMSM) throughout the city of Chicago and in the surrounding suburbs. In collaboration with the other Wellness Circle agencies, the Physical Wellness Coordinator help develop and manage city-wide effort to bring holistic wellness services to underserved communities.
STARTING SALARY RANGE
$55,000 - $65,000 (commensurate with experience)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Administrative
- Develops physical wellness programing specifically crafted for black gay and bisexual same gender loving men
- Coordinates physical wellness activities among internal and external sites of the Mind, Body and Soul collaboration.
- Develops and implements the agency’s strategy for providing holistic care services.
- Develops in person and virtual physical wellness programming activities and classes (e.g. strength building, dance, cooking, yoga, meditation, etc.)
- Conducts hiring and supervising of part-time physical wellness coaches
- Collaborate with partner agencies leading the Spiritual Wellness and App Development activities
- Attend related internal and external meetings, trainings, and conferences
- Continue seeking training in professional skill set and stay current with certifications
- Designs and updates wellness assessments for program participants
Direct Client Services
- Conduct wellness assessments with program participants
- Collaborates with participants to develop holistic wellness plans to achieve individual physical, mental and spiritual wellness goals
- Provides regular check-ins with participants to increase program retention and success
- Utilizes coaching methodologies and communication skills to solicit change and/or increase a patient’s desire to change behavior and adopt a healthier lifestyle
Stakeholder Engagement
- Co-manage and co-facilitate Community Advisory Board Meetings
- Develop and foster trusting organizational relationships with external community partners that provide culturally competent services to Black GBMSM
- Cultivate relationships with individuals who serve as community gatekeepers, stakeholders, service providers, and other integral community members of the Chicago area Black GBMSM community
- Actively participate in local and state planning committees, boards and groups focused on issues impacting the black GBMSM community
New Projects and Events Coordination
- Increase the involvement and engagement of the Mind, Body and Soul Health and Wellness Circle and CAB in community events and initiatives that impact the Black GBMSM community
- Participate in occasional outreach activities and major organization events
- Coordinates an annual bike/walk/run and voguing dance competition as well as monthly group fitness events.
Data Management
- Submit required reports to supervisor and to funding sources within the scheduled time frame
- Ensure the completeness and accuracy of all required program documentation and outcome measures
- Ensure that services are conducted in conjunction with funding source standards and requirements
- Documents client activities and coaching sessions using SOAP notes
Additional Assignments
- Conduct HIV/STI testing/counseling on an as needed basis.
- Other duties as assigned by reporting supervisor or Executive Director
PRIORITY QUALIFICATIONS
- BA/BS in Health Promotion, Nutrition, Kinesiology, Exercise Science or related field required
- Cultural/lifestyle sensitivity to African American, Latino, and LGBT populations required
- Knowledge of HIV care and supportive services
- Maintain CPR/AED certification
- CHES (Certified Health Education Specialist) certification preferred.
- Health coaching certification from National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) Approved Program required, or must obtain within one year of hire date.
- Fitness and physical activity focused positions require discipline specific certification, as applicable. Examples may include
- Personal Trainer certification, or must be willing to acquire within 3-6 months of employment.
- Group Fitness certification, or must be willing to acquire within 6 months of employment.
- Nutritionist Licensure (a huge plus)
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
- Certified HIV/AIDS Tester within first 6 months of employment
- Willing to work some evenings and weekends
- Excellent presentation, communication and conflict resolution skills
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
