Lab Assistant (Cytology Days)

ProPath is a nationwide, physician-led, established, and successful anatomic and clinical pathology group and member of Sonic Healthcare USA. We are seeking an exceptional Lab Assistant to join our thriving practice. The ProPath practice alone has over 50 physicians and nearly 550 team members while Sonic Healthcare USA has over 300 physicians and nearly 8,000 team members. This is the largest physician-led pathology practice in the country.

Days: Tuesday - Saturday

Hours: 9:30 AM - 6:00 PM

This position is responsible for preparing patient samples for clinical testing and data entry of patient demographics into the database in a precise and accurate fashion.

• Accurately evaluate specimen orders and enter clinical data/information into a variety of computer systems (i.e. order entry, patient demographics, and/or results). Identify any missing or invalid data entry information and take the appropriate action to correct.
• Perform technical and nontechnical procedures required to process and submit patient specimens for analysis.
• Operate automated and semi-automated equipment according to standard operating procedures.
• Effectively communicate deficiencies to appropriate personnel, including deficiencies related to specimens, paperwork, database information, and equipment.
• Accurately document information as required, including processing logs, quality control, and labeling of reagents.
• Prepare reagents in the department.
• Routinely handle biohazardous and/or chemical hazardous material.
• Communicate effectively in a courteous, professional manner with all levels of management, co-workers, and clients to provide quality customer service.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, company, and department policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Maintain confidentiality of employee, patient, client, and company information.
• Work effectively within a team-oriented department and company.
• Other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND KNOWLEDGE:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. High level of accuracy and speed when entering alpha and numeric data. Incumbent must be detail- and quality-oriented.

EXPERIENCE:

One year as a Laboratory Assistant and/or one year of data entry experience is preferred.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES:

Performs repetitive or routine duties working from written procedures. Must have the ability to establish work priorities and to handle several tasks for maximum workstation efficiency. Operates automated and semi-automated equipment.
