Position Summary
The primary purpose of this position will be to maintain a healthy and growing portfolio of investment grade private placement debt securities in collaboration with the portfolio manager. Private placements are a subset of Protective Life’s larger fixed-income investment portfolio that seeks to enhance investment income in a conservative and efficient manner.
Responsibilities
· Effectively monitor security-level and macro news events and assess for impact on the portfolio
· Communicate with issuers to ensure timely receipt of required financial disclosures
· Perform quality research and credit analysis for evaluating new investment opportunities within the private placement market, including review of financial statements, offering materials, legal documents, ratings reports, issuer presentations, etc.
· Build relationships with the street to stay current on new deal flow, facilitate execution of secondary trades, and support the monthly pricing process
· Assist with unique private placement tasks such as creating new securities in Bloomberg, maintenance of real-time portfolio data, retaining historical records, running monthly portfolio pricing reports, and managing numerous other administrative items
· Work with Asset Liability Management, Middle Office, Risk, Investment Accounting, and Internal/External Audit teams to provide timely responses to regular information requests
· Review external private placement portfolios of potential acquisition targets in a thorough and timely manner
· Occasional travel for industry conferences or due diligence
Requirements
· Minimum 4-year undergraduate degree
· CFA and/or MBA desirable (will be required to sit for CFA if not already a charter holder)
· Minimum 5 years of fixed-income investment experience preferred
· Proficient in Bloomberg and Microsoft Office, including advanced knowledge of Excel
· In-depth knowledge of fixed-income markets with strength in fundamental credit analysis, economic concepts, asset allocation, and cash management
· Proven ability to multi-task and make timely investment decisions while experiencing uncertain environments
· Self-motivated and independent worker with intellectual curiosity
· Ability to communicate effectively in various settings, both written and oral
· General problem solving, financial modeling, and analytical acuity
· Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
