What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Coder - Patient Access position at Providence Health?

Description

Scope of work includes reviewing and coding diagnoses in the electronic medical record (EMR) using ICD-10 coding principles. Ensures diagnosis codes meet optimum specificity standards, are sequenced in a manner that supports the care provided to the patient and conforms to coding conventions and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) and other regulatory requirements. Completes this work in a manner that supports Health Information Management data integrity standards.

Providence is calling for an Associate Coder to work remotely within our footprint states: AK, CA, MT, OR, TX and/or WA.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2 years - Experience in a team setting which may include 6 months experience in a clerical or general office setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Coursework/Training - Anatomy/Physiology and Medical Terminology.
  • AAPC or AHIMA coding-related credential upon hire.
  • Experience using an electronic medical record (EMR), diagnosis coding software, or related application.

About the Team

Providence Home and Community Care (HCC) is a service line within Providence with over 8,000 caregivers and 2,000 volunteers serving nearly 200,000 people a year, in their homes, in clinics and in a variety of congregate living ministries across our seven-state footprint.

HCC provides a full range of services and support for people of all ages, especially those facing chronic or life-limiting illnesses. Our core competencies include restorative care, longitudinal care and care through the end of life.
