THE ROLE

The Director for the department of Imaging Services provides leadership, promoting superior patient/customer satisfaction, ensuring the highest quality care and service. Responsible for planning, organizing, communicating, directing the functions necessary to ensure overall operational viability and departmental growth. Directs and coordinates departmental activities in accordance with federal, state and local standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • SERVICE:
  • Promotes patient, physician, customer and employee satisfaction by personal example, treating all contacts with respect.
  • Supports and participates in activities that foster customer service.
  • Communicates and follows the organizational chain of command for notification of patient care/service issues, when appropriate.
  • PEOPLE:
  • Maintains required applicable licensure, certification and education.
  • Attends and successfully completes general and department orientation, in-service programs and the annual key competencies and mandatory update requirements.
  • Participates actively in department staff meetings.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communications.
  • MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Meets monthly budget target in wage (SWB) and non-wage (OCE), as well as productivity standards, on an ongoing basis.
  • Meets contract labor budget with a variance of no more than 5%.
  • Completes 100% of staff evaluations on time.
  • Meets the established vacancy rate.
  • Meets the established turnover rate including 90 day, 1 year, and annual turnover.
  • Assures “very good” or “excellent” PSMS scores.
  • Assures 100% staff attendance at hospital required classes, including but not limited to, ethics training.
  • Initiates peer interviewing in the department for 50% of open positions.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and performs work that is consistent with established age-specific policies and procedures, including but not limited to, identifying the need for additional safety measures, or activities that place patients at risk. Communicates pertinent age-specific information to all clients when needed. Communicates effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner. Applicable for the populations Adult and Geriatric.
  • Develops departmental annual operating and capital budget for all areas of responsibility. Ensures the overall financial viability of all areas within the sphere of responsibility.
  • Oversees all necessary departmental human resources management functions including participation in the hiring, coaching, mentoring and firing process. In addition, ensures that effort is extended to effectively motivate employees, utilizes existing hospital policy.
  • Recruitment and retention of appropriate staff and program development to promote outcome based management. Staffs department according to census and acuity utilizing appropriate skill mix.
  • Develops specific, measurable goals and objectives that result in innovative expansion or enhancement of the services and the cost effectiveness of operations.
  • Establishes productivity standards commensurate with services provided and standards in the community.
  • Develops and implements systems which serve to ensure financial and service performance is maintained at acceptable levels, including Quality Assessment and Process Improvement that meet Joint Commission requirements.
  • Communicates actively and effectively with all Staff, physicians and other departments. Maintains a high degree of leadership and visibility and availability to support the communication process.
  • Establishes and maintains departmental policies and procedures, objectives, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Maintains and updates Administrative procedures, assures appropriate facility maintenance.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs. Attends and actively participates in various forms of continuing education. Collaborates with local colleges and universities on educational endeavors. Responsible for placement and overall management of student program.
  • Maintains a comprehensive awareness of current and developing technologies, modalities and advances in the field. Ensures hospital participation when appropriate.
  • Demonstrates willingness to float to areas within their scope of practice as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration (preferred)
  • Within 30 days of hire: California Fire and Life Safety Card - National Organization (Vendor Managed)
  • ART or RHB, ARDMS, or ARMRIT certification (preferred)
  • Management experience (preferred)
  • 3 years of clinical experience in acute care setting
  • 2 years of progressive management experience.
