Description:

Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Accounting Supervisor to our location in Portland, OR. This position will be remote for the remainder of 2021 and may pivot to a hybrid model in 2022 working a combination of in office and remote. We are seeking candidates that are available in commute distance to the office in Portland, OR.

We are seeking a Accounting Supervisor who will be responsible for supervising certain functional areas to ensure deadlines are met and that new policies and/or standardizations are implemented in a timely and efficient manner, takes a lead role in performing varied and intensive professional financial tasks in support of Providence Health Plans. Provides staff support in preparation, coordination, submission, and presentation of assigned projects. This includes specialized entry, examination, computation, verification, maintenance, reconciliation, reporting, and analysis of accounting and financial related data in support of general accounting, cost accounting, budgeting, and strategic initiatives. Manages multiple projects occurring at the same time within the department.

Supervises staff including hiring, assigning work, development planning, evaluating performance, training, providing direction, discipline and responding to complaints or grievances.

This role will lead the operating expense accounting functions including: reporting and analysis, cost accounting, benchmarking, and partnering with business users.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Takes the lead role in performing a variety of analytical and technical assignments within the Finance department including but not limited to the areas of general accounting, financial reporting, cost accounting, and budgeting:
  • Demonstrates knowledge of accounting principles, and terminology.
  • Ensures accounting control procedures are being followed for assigned areas.
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality.
  • Maintains a high degree of attention to detail.
  • Performs and provides direction, training, and assistance in data collection, evaluation, entry and maintenance in specialized computer system/s, Microsoft Excel and Access as necessary:
  • Collects and enters accurate data in and successfully transfers data between systems as necessary.
  • Performs maintenance of systems tables and structures as required.
  • Leads the team in proactively auditing and reviewing records and source documentation to identify discrepancies or inaccuracies in data, makes or recommends corrections needed to ensure data integrity. Actively seeks new methods of improving departmental quality of output:
  • Demonstrates proactive measures by alerting appropriate staff of irregularities and potential problems.
  • Follows through with corrections in data flow and/or system enhancements as needed.
  • Delivers accurate data analysis to customers. Produces reports on software applications as requested. Conducts 1:1 meetings, small group meetings, or group presentations as deemed appropriate. Leads and presents educational and informational sessions when necessary:
  • Uses effective presentation methods (content, style, and delivery) to ensure the audience fully understands the analysis.
  • Ensures the design and development of analysis clearly supports the customer’s ability to understand and take necessary actions.
  • Consistently meets established time constraints.
  • Coordinates and reviews supporting schedules for timeliness and accuracy.
  • Maintains high standards of accuracy and efficiency with limited resources:
  • Demonstrates initiative to participate in project and team functions and expand knowledge of the department.
  • Demonstrates ability to efficiently use department resources.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in meeting unexpected work fluctuations.
  • Develops and maintains effective professional relationships with all levels of PHP staff:
  • Demonstrates a professional attitude.
  • Provides knowledge and cooperation necessary to create an atmosphere of trust and good public relations with all levels of staff.
  • Serves on ad hoc committees and task forces in support of PHP initiatives.
  • Supervises staff including hiring, assigning work, evaluating performance, training, providing direction, discipline and responding to complaints or grievances:
  • Mentors staff.
  • Coordinates workload.
  • Evaluates job performance.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent educ/experience
  • 5 years Accounting or financial analysis experience, extensive experience in personal computers, including spreadsheet, database, and general ledger applications as well as Microsoft Office Suite. Master degree can be substituted for required experience
  • Work record demonstrates personal integrity, veracity, and trust

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Supervisor experience
  • 1 year Cost accounting experience
