Description

The Infection Preventionist is responsible for daily data collection and surveillance activities; provides consultation and ongoing education related to Infection Prevention and Epidemiology practices to hospital and ambulatory care departments. The Infection Prevention Specialist coordinates activities in concert with the department Sr. Manager in support of the development and implementation of program goals and design elements, the formulation of surveillance systems, assessment instruments and intervention strategies; the preparation and enforcement of policies and procedures, the analysis and evaluation of healthcare-associated quantitative data and descriptive information, the development of monitoring functions for the hospital environment for the potential risk of acquiring and transmitting epidemiologically significant microorganisms; compliance with accreditation regulatory codes and standards. The Infection Prevention Specialist works independently and requires limited supervision. Conducts and investigates outbreaks and report findings to the Infection Prevention Committee. The Infection Prevention Specialist implements strategies to meet The Joint Commission (TJC), CDPH and CMS regulations and standards.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Clinical Lab Scientist, Medical Technologist, or health care related science degree

  • Certified in Infection Control within 2 years of hire

  • 2 years' Experience in medical/surgical Nursing, Epidemiology, Microbiology or other related field

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Nursing or related field

  • Infection preventionist experience
