Requirements:
Must be U.S. Citizen or provide a Certificate of Naturalization
Degree: Master's Degree.
Education: Graduate from a college in medical physics, radiological physics, health physics, or physics accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs, Inc (CAMPEP).
Possess one of the following:
Be certified or be eligible for certification by the American Board of Radiology OR
Be board certified by American Board of Medical Physics OR
Be board certified by Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine in Therapeutic Radiologic Physics.
Be listed on a Nuclear Regulatory Commission license as an Authorized Medical Physicist within the past 5 years.
Possess a minimum of three (3) years’ experience within the preceding five (5) years as Therapeutic Medical Physicist in a hospital setting.
Possess a minimum of one (1) year experience within the preceding three (3) years providing physics support for High Dose Rate (HDR) brachytherapy procedures.
Meet the professional qualifications required by the American College of Radiation Oncology for medical physicists supporting American College of Radiation Oncology accredited Computerized Tomography (CT) systems.
Duties:
- Measure and analyze beam data for the treatment machines and assure that beam and source data are correctly entered into the treatment planning system and that beam data is tabulated in a form that is usable by the radiation therapists, dosimetrists, and radiation oncologists.
- Assist with the establishment of treatment planning and delivery procedures.
- Provide input for the clinical determination of radiation dose distributions for patients undergoing treatment. Ensure accuracy of the plans, dosimetry calculations, dose totals, and documentation in patient's charts. This includes 3-Dimensional conformal radiotherapy planning and delivery
- Perform a quality assurance check after maintenance of the treatment machines in accordance with regulations and standard operating procedures.
- Provide education and training for dosimetrists, radiation therapists, nurses, and technical staff.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of quality assurance procedures within the division.
- Provide input for all radiation monitoring, quality assurance, and safety requirements to ensure compliance with licensure requirements, hospital radiation safety regulations, and national standards of performance.
- Assist in simulations and treatment planning when needed.
- Assist in brachytherapy procedures.
- Attend all scheduled weekly chart rounds, quality impact, and quarterly Morbidity and Mortality (M&M) meetings as directed.
- Assist with Local Area Network Server and data management system.
- Perform other duties consistent within the labor category assigned by the Department Head, Chief Physicist and Medical Director.
- Maintain calibration of all diagnostic radiology equipment
- Assist in defining specifications for purchase of new diagnostic equipment and upgrades to existing diagnostic equipment
- Perform acceptance testing, commissioning, calibration, and QA on diagnostic imaging equipment
- Ensure function and operation of current technology used in radiology such as CT, MRI, radiographic/fluoroscopic, etc.
Start date:
- As soon as possible pending Federal Security Clearance process completion (typically 4-6 weeks after initiation)
Schedule:
- Share on-call coverage with other Medical Physicists within the department. On-call services begin at the end of the normal workday during the workweek (Monday through Friday) and shall continue until commencement of the following workday. Weekend coverage (Saturdays and Sundays) shall begin from 0700 Saturday to 0700 Monday, unless the weekend incorporates a holiday on Monday or Friday. In case of a three (3) day weekend of this type, on-call coverage will extend from close of the preceding workday until the beginning of the first following workday. The HCW shall normally provide on-call coverage approximately one (1) week per every 8-9 week rotation. On-call service requirements are variable and depend on the current level of radiology staff and their availability to share on-call services.

- Reliably transportation is required and expected for commuting to and from the work site.
