Your Team
As a Lead Software Engineer in the Chief Investment Office, you will partner with product owners, tech leads, designers, engineers and delivery professionals to improve our investment and risk management platforms. You will code, test and debug new and existing applications as you implement capabilities to solve sophisticated business problems, deploy innovative products, services and experiences to delight our customers! In addition to advanced technical expertise and experience, you will bring excellent problem solving, communication and teamwork skills, along with agile ways of working, strong business insight, an inclusive leadership attitude and a continuous learning focus to all that you do.
Here is What You Can Expect on a Typical Day
- Build applications ensuring that the code follows latest coding practices and industry standards, using modern design patterns and architectural principles; remove technical impediments
- Develop high quality, well documented and efficient code adhering to all applicable Prudential standards
- Provide support to the Chief Investment Office technical product/solution vision, designing the technological solution approach/architecture in conjunction with other teams & team members
- Collaborate with product owners in understanding needs and defining feature stories, tech leads in defining technical design, and other team members to understand the system end-to-end and deliver robust solutions that bring about business impact
- Bring a strong understanding of relevant and emerging technologies, provide input and coach team members and embed learning and innovation in the day-to-day
- Work on complex problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangible variables.
- Create and maintain team documentation capturing environment setup instructions, development workflows, software processes, and application business logic
- Provide timely solutions on urgent production support tasks for our international user base – work with users across different time zones to troubleshoot application issues and provide code fixes
- Perform continuous business analysis as main point of contact with business users: gather user requirements, translate business needs into technical requirements, and work with users to understand/troubleshoot critical production issues
- Write and maintain integration testing for application across our multiple modules
- Maintenance of multilingual trading applications with global user bases
- Flexibility to work after normal business hours (on-call)
The Skills & Expertise You Bring
- Bachelor of Computer Science or Engineering and/or experience in related fields
- Expertise in integrating applications with Bloomberg Data License API for programmatically pulling securities data
- Thorough experience working with Bloomberg Terminal for market data/analysis purposes
- Advanced experience in managing Windows Services, particularly integration with Java and Python business applications
- Knowledge/ability to maintain SSIS packages for ETL Pipelines/data reporting processes
- Hands-on experience in integrating applications with CI/CD pipelines and AWS for deployments
- Extensive experience in containerization of business applications, specifically with Docker
- Strong front-end web application experience in design, architecture, and implementation: expertise in AngularJS and Angular (7 ) frameworks and libraries such as Kendo and PrimeNG
- Highly proficient in Java server-side/API development (Java versions 8 and 11): expertise in Spring framework, Spring Boot, Hibernate/JPA, Reactor (reactive programming), Maven
- High level of proficiency in SQL scripting and database design: comfortable with Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL
- Broad knowledge of financial instruments and asset classes (Public/Private Fixed Income, Asset Backed Securities, Swaps, Options, FX, etc.)
- Thorough understanding of the end-to-end trading workflow in an asset management organization -- from security selection strategy, to trade execution, to recordkeeping & data reconciliation
- Extensive knowledge of Pension Risk Transfer bidding process and related securities analysis for assets-in-kind
- Extensive experience working in an international role -- collaborating with offshore developers and providing prompt support to international users across different time zones
- Ability to coach others with minimal guidance and effectively leverage diverse ideas, experiences, thoughts and perspectives to the benefit of the organization
- Experience with agile development methodologies
- Knowledge of business concepts, tools, and processes that are needed for making sound decisions in the context of the company's business
- Ability to learn new skills and knowledge on an on-going basis through self-initiative and tackling challenges
- Excellent problem solving, communication and collaboration skills
- Advanced experience and/or expertise with several of the following:
- Programming languages: Java, Python, Typescript, HTML, CSS, SQL
- Development Frameworks/Libraries: AngularJS, Angular, Node.js, Spring and Spring Boot, Hibernate/JPA, Maven, Ant
- Databases: Relational databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL), SSIS Package development & maintenance
- Programming/architectural paradigms: Multi-threading & parallel processing, distributed systems, object-oriented programming, functional programming
- Application Programming Interfaces (API): Expertise in design/architecture of applications within microservices framework; Web service technologies such as REST APIs, JSON, XML
- Unit, interface and end user testing concepts and tooling (functional & non-functional)
- Accessibility awareness
- DevOps and CI/CD Tools: Git/Bitbucket, Docker, Jenkins, AWS
- AWS Core Services: AWS services/tools such as Route 53, ECS, ECR, EC2, ALB, RDS, CloudFormation

The salary range for this role is from $129,900.00 to $193,300.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills.
