Marine Tankerman Supervisor
Lower Mississippi River (Baton Rouge/New Orleans) Area
PSC Group is seeking a Marine Supervisor that has direct responsibility for the supervision of PSC tankermen along the Lower Mississippi River in between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. The overall guiding expectation is that the Marine Supervisor will actively engage with field employees, customers, and facility leadership to ensure that all operations under his or her direction are striving to achieve excellent performance in the areas of safety, environmental, and overall job quality. The workgroup will also produce acceptable value in terms of the business contribution with specific financial results as well as strategic value.
Work Schedule: 6 days on, 3 days off, 12-hour shifts, rotating nights and days
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Overall Operating Performance
- Ensures systems and processes are in place to drive safety and environmental performance by the workgroup.
- Clearly communicates goals around operating performance and ensures they are understood.
- Has direct participation in safety meetings and overall training initiatives to model appropriate behavior for our field employees.
- Performs safety observations in the field and routinely visits worksites to establish high visibility with employees and customers.
- Promotes PSC safety initiatives through active participation and coaching.
- Reviews safety observation forms and identifies trends or areas of concern, and develops plan to address them.
- Responds to and investigates all incidents in a timely manner (i.e. employee injuries, spills, releases, property damage, contaminations, etc).
- Ensures that training is being conducted in alignment with PSC and the customers’ procedures.
- Supports field employees with performance problems and helps establish effective corrective actions.
- Works closely with field employees and customers to identify efficiencies and help implement them.
- Ensures positive recognition is occurring for good performance and personally participate in recognition events.
Note: Operating performance typically will be measured through statistics in recordable injuries, environmental incidents, and significant property damages.
- Leadership Development
- Provides one-on-one and group coaching to field employees.
- Actively participates and helps lead group leadership development activities and leadership training conducted with HR.
- Perform annual performance evaluation with field employees.
- Works closely with other Supervisors and the Operations Manager to identify future leaders and creates an individual development plan for these candidates.
- Works closely with Training Supervisor to identify opportunities to cross-train field employees on additional specialty cargoes, barges, and/or transfers.
- Commercial and Business Issues
- Manages damage claims to minimize impact.
- Identifies high risk activities or situations that leave PSC exposed to undesired liability (injury, contamination, reputation).
- Develops win/win solutions to opportunities to maximize value to customer and at the same time contributes to PSC’s financial success.
- Recognizes and acts appropriately for situations that balance protecting short-term financial impact versus long-term negative business position with a PSC customer.
- Customer Relationships
- Knows who the key customer contacts are in the organization from top to bottom.
- Has regular contact with the appropriate level of customer personnel, including regular face-to-face interaction.
- Helps facilitate appropriate customer entertainment.
- New Business Development
- Looks for new business opportunities and work to expand these operations, as appropriate.
- Is fully aware of and promotes other PSC services with existing customers.
- Organizational Support
- Provides support and input to peers within PSC
- Participates in regular supervisor meetings.
- Shares information / best practices / lessons learned
- Seeks input and collaboration on difficult issues and problems.
- Works closely with the HR and safety groups
- Recruiting / hiring / discipline issues
- Helps with key safety training initiatives
- Effectively communicates and implements company policy changes.
- Actively supports business efforts between PSC plant operations and marine operations (best practices, training, leadership development, resource support, etc.).
- Participates in any appropriate cross functional teams, as assigned.
- Provides support and input to peers within PSC
Skills/Qualifications:
- Must currently hold a valid United States Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential with the Tankerman-PIC (Barge) Endorsement for Dangerous Liquids (DL). Liquefied Gas (LG) Cargoes Endorsement preferred, but not required.
- Previous experience in a supervision or leadership role.
- Must possess a valid TWIC card.
- Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
- 18 years or older and legally able to work in the U.S.
- Stable work history with good references from past employers.
- Pass a drug screen, physical, and background check.
- Speak fluent English.
- PSC is a veteran-friendly company. Previous military experience and proven ability to follow procedures is a plus.

You must be able to:
- Speak, write, read fluent English. Hear and have good vision.
- Regular on-site attendance and punctuality is required
- Work outside in environmental conditions which at times include extreme heat or extreme cold
- Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) without restriction and pass any medical examination associated with the use of PP
