The Director of Accounting position is responsible for the overall management of the accounting department, and accounts payable departments through the design, implementation, and monitoring of all operations across all locations. Further, this role is responsible for ensuring the appropriateness of revenue recognized and the corresponding accuracy of the accounts receivable balances by working closely with the Revenue Cycle Management team.
This role will provide day-to-day management of the accounting department and be responsible for ensuring timeliness and accuracy in preparation of financial statements in accordance with the Company’s close calendar and managing all aspects of the internal controls for the accounting, accounts receivable, and accounts payable departments. Serves as liaison to the Revenue Cycle and Finance departments of the organizations Hospital Partners.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, direct and manage accounting activities including cash accounting, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, fixed assets, prepaids and accruals. Review accounting reconciliations and approve journal entries associated with these accounting areas.
- Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring for the Accounting Department team; create an environment that inspires, fosters, and encourages team members to express differing views, approaches and solutions that deliver the best results for the company.
- Manage a timely and accurate financial close on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Implement, document, and maintain adequate and effective processes to improve the close and reporting cycles.
- Responsible for preparation and presentation of Company’s reporting package. Identify recurring and non-recurring transactions to facilitate management reporting.
- Overall responsibility of the general ledger including review of journal entries and monthly reconciliations; performs meaningful variance analysis and presents results to leadership.
- Manage Company’s revenue recognition procedures and accounts receivable. Work closely with Revenue Cash Management team to drive efficiencies and establish best-in-class processes.
- Oversee third party in submission of property tax returns.
- Develop effective internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial reporting; monitor and enforce internal controls to minimize risk to company.
- Support the establishment of annual financial objectives which align with the company's plans for operations, growth, and expansion, including revenues, expenses and overall profitability.
- Manages other projects as needed (e.g. system implementations/upgrades).
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required
- CPA certification required.
- 9 years of progressively responsible accounting experience required. Public accounting experience with national accounting firms through manager level preferred.
- 4 years managing a small team of direct reports; proven leadership skills and demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
- Healthcare industry experience is a plus.
- NetSuite or similar ERP experience is a plus.
- Thorough understanding of GAAP, internal controls, operational risk assessment and financial reporting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to anticipate issues, identify and provide sound guidance for resolution.
- Expert level of proficiency in Excel preferred.
- Strong written and oral communication skills including presentation skills.
- Proven ability to manage projects, allocate resources and collaborate across disciplines and locations. Excellent organization skills.
- Self-motivated and independent, detail oriented, strong work ethic, and high integrity and ethical standards.
