Public Media Group of Southern California (KCET, PBS SoCal and LINK TV) tell stories that matter through original programs that reflect the diversity of the region, and the full schedule of trusted PBS programs. Job Overview

PMGSC seeks a skilled and experienced web developer to create dynamic, performant and accessible public-facing interactive web experiences to extend our reporting and storytelling on arts, culture, news and the environment.

The Interactive Developer is experienced in web standards and technologies (ES6, HTML5, CSS3, AJAX) and thrives in implementing new/emerging JavaScript libraries. The developer has the ability to build, test, optimize and maintain user experiences that clearly relate information and tell compelling stories. The Interactive Developer must proficiently work with various project stack frameworks, particularly Node.js, Sass, Git, Handlebars, Yarn, API integrations, and associated terminal environments. The ideal candidate must be able to rapidly plan, document, communicate and execute on the development of complex web experiences to support the work of our local content team. Must be familiar with working in a Scrum/Agile development work cycle.

Experience with Storybook, Mapping APIs (Google Maps, Mapbox, ArcGIS), Deployment of web Applications/Sites (using Netlify, AWS, or other web CI/CD cloud platform), Brightspot CMS or interactive data visualizations (D3.js, three.js, deck.gl, chart.js, etc.), is a plus.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

70% Research, Development and Testing
  • Develop front-end interactive experiences and integrations to support digital product objectives, particularly on, but not limited to, kcet.org, pbssocal.org and linktv.org
  • Research required web technology as needed to be used by web application/site
  • Prototype, test and iterate against designs and specification to optimize user experience and overall product performance
15% Collaboration and Planning
  • Work with the Digital and Digital Content teams to strategize, architect and plan deliverables and development approaches
15% Creative Ideation
  • Consider storytelling objectives and work with content editors to imagine how they can be
  • realized in a user experience
  • Other duties as assigned
