Typically, selected candidates are hired at a wage rate between the minimum and midpoint of the range.

Grant County PUD will administer a background check as part of the hiring process.

Under general supervision of Engineering manager(s), this position is responsible for providing cost effective support and assistance to supervision and staff engineers for construction, maintenance, and contract management of the utility’s facilities and assets. Strong aptitude for research, analytics, and recordkeeping will be a necessary component.

Job Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Performs high quality and professional day-to-day support for the following engineering activities in multiple departments, including understanding of the policies and procedures of the utility, and acts in a manner that coincides with the utility’s strategic vision and standards:

  • Assists with, or under direct supervision, making cost effective recommendations for operation and maintenance of existing equipment and replacement of obsolete equipment.
  • Assists with, or under direct supervision, providing long-range planning to develop manpower and budgeting for orderly change out of obsolete equipment.
  • Assists with, or under direct supervision, preparation of technical specification for contract documents to be used for bidding purposes.
  • Assists with, or under direct supervision, administering contracts for work performed on utility facilities by contractors, including inspection of contractors’ work.
  • Assists other department in the resolution of problems arising from daily activities.
  • Works with consultants, contractors, and other contract personnel.
  • Assists with, or under direct supervision, preparing detailed instruction and marking and generating new drawings and manuals.
  • Provides necessary support to craftsman to implement engineering changes in the field.
  • Maintains good relations with company representatives, craftsman, suppliers, and engineers while keeping informed of the latest, equipment, practices, and procedures in the utility industry.
  • Provides feedback on budget requirements, scheduling, and management of projects.
  • Assists engineers with work orders, budgeting, contracts, purchasing, accounting, and technical information.
  • Performs field inspection of work and provides reports.
  • Assists with, or under direct supervision, conducting failure analysis and preparing equipment reliability statistics.
  • Promotes teamwork between departments and divisions.

  • following all safety policies and procedures,
  • alerting supervisors and coworkers to unsafe or hazardous working conditions,
  • reporting any safety incidents or close calls within 24 hours to supervisor, and
  • accepting feedback from supervisors and coworkers regarding your personal safety performance.

Job Requirements

Educational Requirements

Current student with a sophomore standing or higher and accepted into a program to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology.

Experience

Entry level engineer internship: engineering experience would include successful acceptance into a college of engineering program and continuing to maintain enrollment in the program with good standing.

Knowledge and Skills

 Knowledge of – organizational policies and procedures; department policies and procedures; computer programs; file management; office environment; administrative, scheduling, estimating, manpower, and tracking project tasks

Skill in – operating a personal computer and general office equipment, typing and entering data with speed and accuracy, utilizing MS office products, organization and prioritization, interpersonal skills including clear and concise communication both in writing and verbally.

Special Requirements

A valid State driver’s license with no restrictions is required. Occasional travel to other utility locations required.

Physical Requirements

Majority of work is performed in a standard office setting.
