Job Description
Medical Copy Editor Overview:
Medical editor collaborates with Writers and Project Managers to ensure work is on tone, on point, and accurately referenced.1 primary brand (HCP/DTC/Unbranded). Senior level experience.
Individual must have:
- substantive medical/pharmaceutical experience and fluency with AMA style.
- healthcare agency experience and fully understand the process of referencing, annotating, submissions to medical legal, etc.
- feel comfortable working on print and digital copy and be able to work with various client/brand style guides.
- feel comfortable working in a deadline-oriented environment and be flexible and able to problem solve without jeopardizing accuracy
Responsibilities:
- Attends brand status, kick-offs, and any other team meetings requiring editorial perspective/input for the brand
- Copy edits, proofreads, and fact checks with a very low error rate
- Quickly comprehends technical/scientific articles. Ensures data is represented accurately and is adequately referenced and annotated through the fact checking process
- Works closely with team members to ensure that print and digital materials are of the highest quality in terms of accuracy, utility, clarity, readability, and appeal
- Responsible for creating and/or managing the updating of style/claim sheets for brands and communicating with team
- Demonstrates significant knowledge of agency procedures and contributes to problem resolution
- Raises red flag when agency is jeopardizing quality for speed
Qualifications
- Copy edit, fact-check, and proofread a variety of promotional and educational materials for physicians, other healthcare professionals, and patients, from manuscript through print or digital production
- Thorough knowledge of AMA style and FDA regulations
- Process-oriented and understanding of brand style
- Problem-solving abilities
- Ability to collaborate and communicate well with a team
- Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to handle multiple projects and client editorial styles simultaneously
- Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) from an accredited college or university
