Position Summary:
Accomplishes the Water Resource program objectives by coordinating functions required to enhance, quantify, and protect the Pueblo’s current and future water resources within the Rio Jemez and Rio Grande Basins in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, ordinances and regulatory agencies. Will oversee and guide the irrigation systems and crew laborers in accordance with the Tribal Mayordomo requests; will assist gathering all data, checking all gates, turnouts and screen waterways to regulate flow into the canals and laterals. Will report information to the Mayordomo leadership with daily reports.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assists in developing goals and objectives for implementing the water resource program.
- Coordinates operation of the Pueblo’s ditches, schedules workflow, and delegate work with the irrigation supervisor according to deadlines.
- Assist in monitoring the full extent of the ditches and laterals by foot/or motor vehicle recommending and coordinating work with the irrigation supervisor.
- Assist in providing guidance in the removal of debris, vegetation, and weeds from all screened waterways for smooth water flow. Coordinate emergency repairs with the irrigation supervisor.
- Coordinate and assist with equipment inventory and heavy equipment trainings.
- Prioritizes, assigns, and schedules work activities and projects, monitors workflow, implements policies and procedures, reviews, and evaluates work of technicians.
- Assists Division Manager with elements of Water Resources programs and collaborates with other Divisions on projects that involve water resource issues.
- Coordinates trainings for the ditch laborers with assistance from the irrigation supervisor.
- Will coordinate completed work plan(s) with Tribal Mayordomo and present information to the irrigation supervisor on current and new projects.
- Provides technical support to the Water Rights Program including the adjudication of the Rio Jemez, schedules technical elements of groundwater and surface water modeling.
- Performs field collection of hydrologic parameters.
- Provides hydrogeologic data analysis and interpretation to include the evaluation of surface and ground water quantity and quality.
- Provides technical assistance to other environmental staff, other departments, committees, groups and community members on programs and projects related to water resources.
- Ensures technical equipment is in proper working order; reports defects and broken parts found on equipment; repairs and purchases equipment as needed.
- Conducts community outreach and environmental education to Pueblo youth and community.
- Keeps Tribal Council and other departments informed of status of program activities by attending meetings and submitting reports.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge and acts as a technical representative by conducting research, attending seminars, educational workshops, classes and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies; conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.
- Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
- Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Hydrology, Environmental Science, Natural Resources or related field plus 3 yeas’ experience in water resources; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation including a motor vehicle check. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver’s license and be insurable under the Pueblo’s insurance.
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications:
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
- Knowledge of department organization, functions, objectives, policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the principles of environmental conservation and management related to water resources.
- Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment.

- Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs in a Windows environment.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee occasionally is required to stand; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment:
Work is generally performed in an office setting with a moderate noise level and occasionally performed outdoors. Exposure to natural weather conditions and various dusts may occur while performing outdoor duties. Situations where safety-toe shoes, safety goggles, gloves, or protective face shields are needed may occur.

Pay: $22.54 - $27.05 per hour
