TEACHER - English as a Second Language

The ESL teacher will perform/oversee the following:

  • Implement ESL policies and regulations as established by KDE and the Pulaski County Board of Education.
  • Create and maintain an instructional climate that is conducive to learning in the ESL instructional setting.
  • Assist with the identification of LEP students using appropriate assessment instruments, surveys, and enrollment information.
  • Plan and implement ESL instruction based on diagnosed needs of each individual student.
  • Evaluate student performance in the ESL program and provide mainstream teachers with in-put regarding student progress.
  • Maintain individual student folders on students receiving ESL services (work samples, assessments and evaluations, ESL department forms).
  • Attend staff development programs related to ESL strategies, methodology, and inter-cultural communication.
  • Provide information to district, state, and federal agencies as requested. Work to assist students in understanding American culture and encourage mainstream students to understand other cultures.
  • Function as a resource person to district staff members as necessary.
  • Collaborate with teachers in classroom instruction for LEP students as needed. Assist classroom teachers in designing intervention strategies for LEP students.
  • Any other duty assigned by the Superintendent/ESL coordinator

Qualifications: Candidate should be a certified teacher in the state of Kentucky, hold an ELL endorsement, or work to obtain said endorsement.
