What are the responsibilities and job description for the Study Hall Monitor - Academy, Grades 9-12 position at Punahou School?
The Study Hall Monitor will provide supervision and instructional assistance to students while maintaining an atmosphere conducive for study by enforcing study hall rules and guidelines. The Study Hall Monitor communicates aims and objectives in a well-planned and concise manner.

- Communicate with and ensure students and parents are well-informed of the Study Hall guidelines.
- Supervise students working on classroom assignments and/or projects.
- Motivate reluctant learners to complete assignments.
- Maintain discipline and a safe and organized learning environment.
- Assist students with managing behaviors and resolving conflicts.
- Communicate escalated attendance and behavioral issues or concerns to appropriate faculty.
- Communicate frequently with administrator regarding status and needs of students.
- Act as a role model and an exemplary representative of Punahou School.
- Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, faculty, coaches, parents, and community.
- Maintain student attendance records and files.
- Opens and secures the study hall facility, ensuring it is clean and any equipment is in good working order.
- Work Year: 9 Months
- School Year: 2024-2025
- Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 2:30 PM, Schedule may vary based on operational needs
- Starting Hourly Rate*: $17.00/Hour
- Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- At least two (2) years of successful experience working with or supervising adolescents.
- Experience as an academic tutor highly desirable.
- Knowledge of SEL (Social Emotional Learning) and application strategies encouraged.
- First Aid and CPR Certified.
- Working familiarity of basic computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet, database, email, and social media.
- Possess knowledge of effective behavior management methods for pre-adolescent and adolescent students.
- In-depth knowledge of health and safety education strategies.
