Job Title: Assistant Director, Writing Center and Service Desk

We are currently seeking a full-time and onsite Assistant Director, Writing Center and Service Desk for our Library. This position provides weekend and evening managerial support to the building and staff of the Service Desk and Writing Center. The annual salary for this position is $46,800.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Supervise, train, support, and manage the Service Desk and Writing Center staff.
- Oversee the day-to-day Service Desk operations, which includes opening and closing, assignment of daily tasks, and taking action to deal with disruptive or problem patrons.
- Facilitate advisor and instructor referrals and alerts for students in need of Writing Center services.
- Performs circulation tasks which includes: working at the service desk, working in the library stacks, making referrals and scheduling appointments for librarians and the Writing Center, and providing general support for patrons.
- Answer directional and mid-level reference questions.
- Coordinate with university departments and faculty to receive and return materials.
- Assist with the marketing, selection, and training of Writing Center consultants and Service Desk student employees.
- Build and maintain excellent relationships with internal and external customers, faculty and staff.
- Collaborate with business team to process payments, address, and resolve applicable library fees.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 3 years of supervisory experience.
- Able to manage day-to-day operations within a department or area.
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and database management software.
- Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
- Ability to self-motivate and quickly adapt to a changing environment.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Able to take initiative to solve problems to improve efficiency.
- Ability to move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- The schedule for this position is Mon - Wed 12pm - 9pm, Fri & Sat 8am - 5pm, & Sun 12pm – 9pm. Flexibility in work schedule is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of English composition, editing, pre-professional writing, or Communications coursework, certificate, or degree, OR Library Science or Library and Information Science coursework or degree.
- Knowledgeable of library databases, electronic resources, and library cataloging rules and standards.
- Experience in a writing center or related employment area within an academic setting.
