Statement of Purpose
The Residential Advisor fulfills the assigned role as part of the treatment team, maintaining the well-being of clients and the integrity of the program. They shall provide client supervision and staff/unit support as assigned. Ideal candidates have, experience as mental health technician, Resident Advisor, hospitality worker, resident assistant, direct support professional. Must be at least 26 years of age.
Reports to: Director of Operations
Schedule: 7:00am - 3:30pm, 2:45pm - 11:15pm, weekdays and weekends.
Major Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities
- Completes admission/intake procedures for new clients including all paperwork, room assignments, and initial orientation.
- Conducts property searches of clients as required by program standards.
- Orientation of clients to facility and house rules.
- Maintain professional boundaries at all times.
- Observes, evaluates and reports client behavior, attitudes, general emotional maturity and stability of family members to help assist client in treatment program and discharge planning.
- If registered or certified may conduct group therapy
- Works with other chemical dependency counselors in preparing case histories and providing Chemical Dependency Services within their level of competence and scope of practice.
- Participates in interdisciplinary staff meetings with other staff members and counselors to discuss, evaluate, and develop treatment plans.
- Records interventions and interactions with patients, families and community agencies in progress notes of patients’ charts.
- Coordinates discharge planning for all assigned patients. Develops aftercare plans.
- Completes appropriate documentation in the charts, treatment plan and clinical progress.
- Responds to all patient information requests on assigned patients.
- Attends interdisciplinary staff meetings, case conferences, program team meetings, in-service and other meetings when appropriate.
- Assesses and plans for the social needs of individuals.
- Assists with new admissions when requested.
- Working knowledge of the philosophy and approach Smart Recovery and 12 step program (if client would like 12 step program).
- Provide and record BAC and UDS tests on clients when required per program standards.
- Ability to communicate clearly with clients, staff, peers, and supervisors as well as reporting or notifying appropriate staff during client crises or concerns immediately.
- Provide transportation services including client transportation, business errands, airport pick-up/drop off, etc. as needed per Program Administrator.
- Assist in smooth house flow by answering the phone, filing paperwork as directed, making copies of various documents upon the request of nurses, therapists and/or administrator.
- Routine checks on the client’s whereabouts while on facility grounds and document per program standards.
- Maintenance of visual contact on clients, as much as possible, during an off-grounds outing/errand request and reporting any suspicious behavior or actions to the treatment team that does not coincide with treatment plans or program rules.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings or in-service meetings.
- Ability to write clear (and concise) statements, summarizing client’s feelings, expressions, resistance and response to their treatment plan; goals and objectives. Includes letters to referral agencies, courts/probation.
- Role modeling and use of appropriate social interactions, conflict resolution and de-escalation skills
- Make client beds, do client dishes, pick up after clients
- Put away client activities after they are finished for example art projects, puzzles, movies, journaling
- Take out all trash in house for example kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, garage, etc.
- Knowledge of substance abuse and ability to recognize intoxication.
- Other duties as assigned.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
Current Registered Alcohol and Drug Technician credential required.
First Aid certification, obtain within (7) days of employment and maintain current.
CPR certification, obtain within (7) days of employment and maintain current thereafter.
Health Screen, obtain (60) days prior to employment or within (7) days after employment.
TB test must be obtained within (5) days of employment.
Shall be licensed, certified, or registered to obtain certification pursuant to the California Code of Regulations, Chapter 8, Section 13035 (f).
