Position Summary


SUMMARY:

We are the Purple Product & Merchandising Team. We are a fast-growing group of category management, merchandising and brand/product management experts. Our mission is simple: drive revenue and merchandising margin by launching and leveraging innovative products and delivering the right product assortment across channels in support of product and brand strategies and key consumer insights. 

 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Product, Assortment, and Launch Strategy - develop and lead product and category strategies and assortment planning, including managing the development and launch of new innovations while also successfully developing strategies to protect revenue streams and customer satisfaction 
  • Product Lifecycle – plan the launch/transition/retirement of products and manage the cross-functional implementation of the plan (from Ideation/Discovery to Commercialization); this includes presenting ideas and progress to and getting buy in from senior management at Stage Gate meetings 
  • Product Positioning and Marketing - develop and communicate product positioning and messaging that differentiates and drives sales of our products in the market 
  • Promotional Strategy – develop promotional strategies for your categories and align them with the company promotional strategy and plan 
  • Sales enablement – develop comprehensive commercialization plans and compelling sales story and tools that support the Sales team and our selling process; this includes partnering with the Retail and eCommerce teams to develop highly creative demand generation strategies that drives customer acquisition 
  • Market intelligence – be the expert on your category consumers and customers, how they buy and their buying criteria; be the expert on your competition and create strategies to win; be the expert on the day-to-day business for your product categories 
  • Pricing and Packaging - Work with cross-functional team to develop pricing and packaging strategies that optimize market growthrevenue potential, and customer experience 
  • Best practices – set internal best practices for product management and merchandising 

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: 

  • Partner with Innovation (R&D, Engineering), Operations, and Project Management on the development of new products for your categories 
  • Work collaboratively with Design, Creative, Production, Warehouse, and Operations teams 
  • Develop and improve processes to achieve your responsibilities  
  • Proactively monitor competition and recommend/implement appropriate responses 
     

SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, or related field (MBA is preferred)  
  • 3-5+ years of category/product/brand management experience  
  • Creative problem solver, innovative, and strategic thinker  
  • Excellent analytic skills  
  • Adept at leading and influencing cross-functional teams; solid interpersonal skills  
  • Strong project and people management/influencing skills
