What are the responsibilities and job description for the Corporate Accountant I position at Putnam Investments?
This is an exciting opportunity to be a member of the Corporate Accounting team at Putnam Investments! The Corporate Accountant I will be responsible for recording all domestic and international cash activity, prepaids, fixed assets, and running the capitalized software process; preparing journal entries to ensure that month end close is completed within three to four business days after month end; ensure that month end reconciliations are completed on a timely basis. The role includes interaction with members of Corporate Accounting, Financial Reporting, Corporate Finance, Tax, Legal and Compliance, and Operations. This is a detail-oriented position with firm deadlines. A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and the ability to work cyclical overtime is a requirement of this position.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
- Record all cash transactions processed in a month; set up any new prepaids or fixed assets in the general ledger; own the amortization/depreciation process for fixed assets, prepaids, capitalized software, and other standard accruals.
- Assist the team with any special projects, information requests, external year-end audits requests that are received by Corporate Accounting, Financial Reporting, Business units and Deloitte and Touche, the external auditors.
- Complete work associated with the month-end close process. Ensure that all items are entered into SAP in a timely fashion. Review for any unusual fluctuations and investigate and explain these fluctuations and perform account reconciliations.
- Provide support, preparation and review of monthly analytics used in monthly/quarterly reporting process. Provide any additional analysis and review required in support of the year-end financial statement process.
Minimum educational requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- Minimum of 1-2 years’ relevant experience
- Willingness to work hard and contribute to achievement of team goals
Essential skills required:
- Strong technical skills (i.e., Excel, SAP)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to work in a deadline-oriented environment
- Technical accounting knowledge, ability to settle appropriate accounting treatment of new transaction types, financial services industry experience a plus.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to optimally interact with all levels of management
