Learning these important team leader skills is an ongoing process that requires regular practice and use. Here are a few important skills a team leader would benefit from at QSM.
Organizing Team
Organization is necessary when there are multiple team members on a single goal. It is the responsibility of the team leader to organize the team members in such a way to efficiently meet goals and communicate methods of achieving set goals.
Team Goals and Progress
To measure a team’s success, it is important to identify what success means in the respective department. A team leader is responsible for communicating the goals to the team members. This is to give team members a clear understanding of what is expected from them.
Coaching/Motivating Team
An effective team leader will coach team members to help achieve goals or motivate the member when goals are not met. Weekly productivity report will be made available to determine a team member’s production. Offering feedback and expecting a high-level work ethic helps communicate the team member’s progress and QSM’s standards. A team leader should be able to communicate all matters positively.
Team Development
It is also a team leader’s responsibility to identify the team’s strengths and weaknesses. A Team Leader is expected to determine which team member excels at which task. The Team Leader should have the ability to properly delegate tasks to accentuate a team members strength while alleviating the department’s weakness.
Conflict Resolution (Problem Solving)
A team leader is responsible for preventing conflict where possible and resolving it when it does arise. By being knowledgeable in QSM’s protocols and procedures, you can help prevent or properly address many conflicts. If you notice conflict, it best to resolve it before it escalates. Seeing others as people (out-of-the-box) is the approach we have adopted and will implement at QSM.
