As Assistant Financial Controller, this position will be responsible for the accounting, finance, and budgeting functions, as well as the monthly and yearly closing and financial reporting for the Company. The position’s main functions include financial and cost accounting, as well as business analysis. The Assistant Financial Controller must have strong analytical skills, be able to quickly gain an understanding of the business, and work hand-in-hand with senior management. The Assistant Financial Controller must have strong leadership abilities and will be responsible for managing the Accounting Department staff. This position is expected to handle monthly/annual closing, cost accounting, forecasting, business analysis and decision support. It will provide broad-based analytical support for project costing, profitability analysis, forecasting and continuous improvement projects. The position will also be responsible for GL reconciliations and research, payroll and 401k duties and assisting the CFO with projects as needed. The Assistant Financial Controller is responsible for ensuring that the company assets are safeguarded and preserved by providing diligent attention to GL transactions, discrepancy resolution, and proper recording of financial transactions.
Summary of Essential Job Functions
Accounting / General Ledger
- Implement current general/cost accounting processes/practices, policies and procedures and recommend new policies as necessary.
- Maintain the general ledger chart of accounts ensuring accuracy and relevant tracking of expenses.
- Entering monthly recurring journal entries for: depreciation, prepaid expenses, accruals, etc.
- Monthly reconciliations (i.e., payroll, fixed asset,…GL accounts)
- Responsible for month and year end closing duties. This includes but is not limited to: ensuring close timeliness and accuracy, account reconciliations, accruals, journal entry preparation/posting and variance analysis.
- Process bank transfers, Positive Pay uploads, maintenance of amortization schedules, etc.
- Review of billing / Invoicing and researching variances within billing system.
- Review bi-weekly payroll. Prepare/enter payroll journal entries. Experience with Paychex preferred.
- Works closely with Human Resources on all payroll, benefits and 401k issues
- 401k responsibilities
- Effectively work with business unit management and business teams to provide decision support and help make sound business decisions to optimize performance of the Company.
- Perform financial and cash flow analysis for cost management initiatives, capital projects and investment opportunities.
- Perform wide variety of general accounting duties such as financial statement preparation, annual/periodic audit support and budgeting.
- Develops material, labor and overhead cost standards and ensures implementation and accurate periodic updates.
- Management and leadership of the Accounting Department staff.
- Researching discrepancies and ad hoc issue
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- Five to ten years of Accounting experience
- MBA and/or CPA is very desirable but not required.
- Must have proficient experience in General Ledger and Bank Reconciliations
- Demonstrated proficiency with Excel and financial analysis capabilities
- Ability to communicate complex financial issues
- Knowledge of management principles and practices and the ability to foster a cooperative work environment
- Proven track record in leadership and managing staff
- Intermediate-level skills in computer programs such as Deltek, the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), and Windows OS
- The ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion
- Adept at gathering data, compiling information and preparing reports
- Ability to take the initiative and be proactive
- The ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
- Sitting for extended periods of time
Targeted Salary: $80-95K with generous compensation package, yearly review and bonus.
