What are the responsibilities and job description for the First Press Operator Nights position at Quad?
- Responsible/accountable for the overall safety of the entire press crew.
- This includes but is not limited to: using the inch-safe-service method while washing blankets or any other time it is required; following Lockout/Tagout procedures when necessary; maintaining proper placement of machine guards; ensuring Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is properly worn when necessary; following and enforcing the Quad Safety Rules. Performs and/or oversees all tasks associated with operating the press equipment in support of the production goals related to safety, setup, line speed, waste, web breaks and downtime.
- Ensures that rollers are maintained in good condition and set properly as dictated by the PM process
- Inspects printed quality of jobs including folds, cleanliness, color and registration.
- Ensures press is re-webbed correctly, safely and efficiently.
- Ensures that proper plates are mounted correctly and accurately.
- Serves as the leader for assigned equipment and crew and directs the work of crew members.
- Supports Pressroom Supervisor by providing instruction, training and guidance to junior crew members and provides performance feedback for these positions.
- Follows all safety regulations and encourages safe work habits from press crew.
- Participate in accident investigations if crew members become injured.
- Review applicable Safety Alerts with crew members.
- Prefer 3 years' experience or more in press operations.
- Perform basic math functions as related to press operations.
- Proficient in reading, writing, speaking and general knowledge of English to understand written directions.
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve print related problems such as pressure, settings, tension, irregular ink distributions and web-breaks.
- Ability to work as a cooperative part of a crew and provide both technical and safety instructions/training to junior crew members.
- Enhanced listening skills and ability to follow directions from the supervisor.
- Exhibit good interpersonal skills in issuing work instructions and communicating with crew members.
- Ability to demonstrate and share personal job knowledge with less experienced crew members.
- Ability to recognize when both positive and negative reinforcement is warranted for safe/unsafe behavior.
- Ability to work overtime as required based upon production demands.
