Position Summary:

Business Technology Specialists should possess strong problem-solving, analytical, and communications skillset, and extensive technical knowledge of QD hardware and software, as well as integration and dependencies across multiple system platforms.


Job Duties:

  • Evaluates and resolves user problems; identifies and obtains appropriate resources for the resolution of complex problems; corrects routine problems by making minor repairs to computer equipment and/or entering specialized commands or data into systems; contacts appropriate resources for additional assistance.
  • Instructs users in efficient use of technology; answers questions and assists in resolving problems regarding the methods and procedures for using computers and computer applications.
  • Work with minimal technical support from other positions within the assigned department and serve as a department's principal contact when assigned an on-call status.
  • Monitors and works toward maintaining the security of organizational data; create, modify and delete user accounts, monitors security systems and responds to security incidents, participates in security testing, ensures integrity and confidentiality of sensitive data, prevents, detects and responds defensively against intrusion.
  • Performs system backups and recovery; establishes procedures to backup, verify and restore system data.
  • Coordinates and preforms installation of new hardware and software; installs, tests, and monitors the operation of computer hardware and software; configures hardware and software to meet organizational needs.
  • Conducts server builds and provides support and maintenance; uses various utilities to patch, upgrade, trouble-shoot, repair, and check server configurations.
  • Administers Local, Wide Area Networks and Internet; establishes procedures ensure the efficient operation of the local and wide area network and the internet.
  • Evaluate and recommend changes or additions to organizational technological systems using present-day acceptable practices and methods as well as knowledge of departmental operations.
  • Evaluates needs for new and revised systems; identifies possible improvements in computer systems; makes recommendations for purchase of new information systems hardware and software; oversees work of vendors.
  • Administrate, manage and maintain organizational databases; conducts backups and restores databases as needed; adapts existing database software to best meet organizational needs.
  • Maintains various records and documentation for department computer systems; may write straightforward report generation programs or other simple computer code.
  • Perform specialized duties as required by the department to which they are assigned;


Essential Skills, Abilities and Physical Demands:

The employment standards for this classification vary by assignment, but will include completion of training in the general principles of computerized applications, basic principles of computer programming and the use of computer applications that are similar to those currently used by the organization; and a minimum of one year of experience in the following areas:

  • Retain and maintain confidentially of secure access permissions to organizational systems;
  • Protect and maintain the security of confidential data;
  • Providing direct technical support to others using computer equipment for office applications on a local area or wide area network, including desktop configurations; hardware and software installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting; user access and problem-solving;
  • Adapting existing database software, spreadsheets, and other programs to best meet end user needs;
  • Computer systems specialist and a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to one of the employment standards listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities;
  • The functions and operations of computers, commercial computer software including point of sales, productivity and database software;
  • Local and wide area networks, and Internet, including hardware/software installation and configuration;
  • General principles of office automation, and computer systems analysis;
  • A variety of hardware, operating systems, and related software used.

  • Exposure to temperature and noise extremes

Education/Experience Requirements:

Associate’s degree in Computer Information Technology, Computer Technology Integration; Networking Technology, or related area and two years of experience in the Information Technology field related to the position’s role. Additional work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree.
