Qualus University’s Engineering Boot Camp is a full-time entry-level program designed to jumpstart your career with Qualus. Our program includes intensive classroom training taught by internal and industry experts, site visits with hands-on substation safety & equipment training, and very importantly, FE prep exam training. We want you to become amazing engineers who can make a direct impact on our clients and realize your career goals.

 

The 2024 Engineering Boot Camp, powered by Qualus University, will be starting on July 8, 2024. As a program participant, you will receive an offer to be a full-time employee with Qualus.

 

Program participants will be required to travel as part of the training. Full-time roles are available for the following locations:

  • Fort Worth, TX – Protection & Control Engineer
  • Raleigh, NC – Protection & Control Engineer
  • Raleigh, NC – Substation Design Engineer
  • Lake Mary, FL – Protection & Control Engineer
  • El Dorado, KS – Substation Design Engineer
  • Reno, NV – Protection & Control Engineer
  • Salt Lake City, UT - Protection & Control Engineer

Responsibilities

Power your future with Qualus as a Protection & Control Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the design and development of utility substation Protection & Control (P&C) engineering design packages that include drawings such as one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, AC/DC Elementary diagrams, circuit schedules, logic diagrams, operating diagrams, and more.

 

  • Working on project teams supporting all quality and project management goals.
  • Meeting all project deadlines and supporting the processes and procedures to meet deadlines.
  • Maintaining up-to-date technical skills related to the design of electrical substations and protection and control schematics for the electric utility power grid through on-the-job work and formal training.
  • Applying test procedures for various types of relay test equipment.
  • Substation awareness and Safety consciousness.
  • Aptitude to quickly learn and apply test procedures for various types of substation equipment.
  • Good PC skills and the ability to support testing activities as required by the project lead.
  • Develop drawings and assist in the preparation of design packages using CAD/drafting skills.
  • Preparing additional support documentation as needed to assist procurement, construction, and operation/maintenance of systems being designed.
  • Consistently following established design standards and CAD drafting standards while assuring quality, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Identifying process improvement ideas and commuting ideas through appropriate management channels.

Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited school (Mechanical or Civil Engineering degrees accepted for some roles).
  • Educational experience directly related to working with [medium to high voltage] electricity.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Microsoft Office product application.
  • Knowledge of test equipment and tool/wiring usage.
  • Interpretation of wiring and elementary diagrams; basic test skills to perform duties listed above, basic PC skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.
