What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laboratory Associate position at Quantigen?

1. Purpose

Quantigen LLC is looking for a laboratory associate to work in our research department. This position will work primarily with a team to develop and optimize new diagnostic tools for the detection of micro bacterium and tuberculosis. 2. Responsibilities

Minimum responsibilities

  • Understanding of aseptic techniques.
  • Familiar with and experience using pipettes.
  • Able to perform laboratory experiments.
  • Must have prior research experience.
  • Experience with PCR.
  • Help write laboratory protocols and test plans.
  • Effectively communicate with supervisors and co-workers.
  • Conduct and receive cross-training in laboratory SOPs and techniques.
  • Maintain cleanliness of lab, instrumentation, and benches.
  • Handle hazardous materials, reagents, and chemicals safely in accordance with laboratory policy and procedure.
  • Time permitting, assist coworkers in completing their projects on time.
  • Other relevant tasks, as assigned.

Future More Advanced Responsibilities

  • Independently carry out and become the subject matter expert (SME) for assigned projects.
  • Plan, execute, and troubleshoot individual experiments.
  • Evaluate data generated from experiments (QC) and communicate findings to project leaders and/or appropriate stakeholders.
  • Communicate any issues to Laboratory Managers and collaborate to find solutions
  • As SME, communicate accurate data and project details to clients and other stakeholders using tools such as PowerPoint.

3. Competencies

  • Teamwork mentality—actively collaborate with coworkers, managers, and relevant parties to exceed clients’ expectations in completing all work in Quantigen’s project queue.
  • Adaptable to changing processes and new techniques.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Participate as SME and/or team member on multiple projects simultaneously.

4. Qualifications

  • Must have a molecular science background.
  • Must be familiar with PCR experiments.
  • Must have a strong desire to work regularly in the laboratory.
  • A bachelor’s degree in one of the life sciences from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • 2-4 years of hands-on laboratory experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Willing to work directly with all types of samples, including human blood, urine, feces, and saliva.
  • Willing to work with infectious bacterial and viral pathogens following biosafety level 2 (BSL-2) practices.

5. Work Environment

  • Able to safely work in the laboratory up to Biosafety Level 2.
  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Able to safely work in a lab with potential exposure to chemicals, fumes, and biological agents (all PPE and relevant protective equipment (e.g., fume hoods) will be provided by Quantigen).

6. Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time.
  • Repetitive hand motions e.g., pipetting, typing on a keyboard, etc.
  • Ability to focus on computer screens and very small objects (e.g., a single well in a 384-well plate)

Education:

  • Bachelor's (Preferred)

Experience:

  • Post Graduation Pipetting: 2 years (Preferred)
  • Post Graduation Validation: 2 years (Preferred)
  • Post Graduation Laboratory: 2 years (Preferred)
  • Post Graduation PCR/DNA/RNA: 2 years (Preferred)
  • Post Graduation Molecular Laboratory: 2 years (Required)
