What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fulfillment Center General Manager position at Quiet Logistics?

Position Summary:  Responsible for the overall management and performance of the facility including office and warehouse operations, administration, customer relations, information technology support needs and follow-up, quality and security. In addition, the DC Manager is accountable for achieving company objectives, productivity standards and cost control goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop and direct all managers (supervisors) to ensure the efficient and cost-effective operations and utilization of the facility. Oversee all distribution services including receiving, storing, shipping, handling returned/damaged goods, maintenance and administrative activities to ensure customer requirements are met. Oversee job assignments and labor schedules. Plan long-range labor needs based on sales forecasts and input from management. Focus on continuous improvement and make recommendations to senior management on programs to improve operations.
  • Develop a space utilization plan to meet prescribed cost and service standards. Monitor the space layout plan to ensure it continues to meet company standards. Monitor the effects of the selected product locator system and update senior management on any substantial positive/negative impact
  • Direct the operations of warehouse managers (supervisors) to achieve the established objectives. Develop and maintain a productive work team by creating programs for hiring, training and professional development. Match the skill and background of personnel to the work required. Apply sound communication and motivational techniques, create programs to supervise, counsel and discipline associates. Implement, maintain and apply our company performance evaluation system for recommending promotions, wage increases and terminations.
  • Participates in budget preparation, revenue and account analyses.
  • Ensures the accurate and timely preparation, processing, distribution and retention of all necessary reports and records
  • Ensure that procedures are established and adhered to for the efficient operation and utilization of all warehouse equipment. Direct programs to ensure the safety of all personnel, equipment and property.
  • Provide safety instruction to personnel as needed. Report all work-related injuries immediately.
  • Provide immediate medical attention to injured employees as necessary. Ensure compliance with appropriate government regulations.
  • Continually maintain a professional and courteous relationship with all customers. Audit operations to ensure service level agreements are being met. Meet with customers as scheduled by the client services representative to discuss performance against SLAs. Establish customer relations training programs for all front-line personnel.
  • Ensure current and accurate inventory control of all products.
  • Ensure prompt notification to IT support for any systems issues that impact the company objectives or ability to facilitate the efficient operations of the warehouse. Document notification, resolution and time frame of resolution. Ensure that necessary computer software and hardware are provided. Remain knowledgeable regarding changes in hardware or software technology
  • Ensure the security of the facility, its environs, employees and contents. Conduct regular instruction in good security practices.

Education/Experience:

  • College degree (preferably in Operations Management, Logistics, Supply Chain or Industrial Engineering) or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years previous management experience in a supply chain distribution environment with over 100 employees.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of warehouse operations is necessary. A working knowledge of warehouse and transportation management systems is a must. A broad range of management skills is required with particular emphasis on leadership, supervision, motivation, communication, and planning.
  • Must be able to give and receive innovative, creative and helpful feedback for team growth and productivity.
  • Must be able to interface and communicate effectively within the organization, business units throughout the company and partners across the supply chain.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must be a strong team player with a firm, personal commitment toward the business and its customers.
  • Must value diversity and exhibit a leadership style that empowers, coaches, mentors, and fosters a cohesive team environment.
  • Must also be successful in managing effective deployment of resources, systems and personnel to enable achievement of organizational objectives.
  • Extensive sourcing, negotiation and human relations skills are required.
  • Experience partnering with Sales and Sr. Executives to drive revenue and profitability.
  • Appreciation for distribution technology (hardware, software) as adapted to meet customer requirements.
  • Able to react quickly to changes initiated from outside the facility and allocate resources to meet changes in demand. 
  • Able to plan for seasonal peaks and valleys.
  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills.
