R2 Contractors, Inc. is looking for a dedicated and experienced Controller to join our team in Redmond, OR or Queen Creek, AZ. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the company operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. A strong background in construction finance, exceptional leadership abilities, and a proven track record of delivering accurate and timely financial information is required. The Controller will be working closely with all management including but not limited to: Owner, General Manager, Project Managers, Superintendents, Estimators, Accounting staff, etc.
The list of primary responsibilities includes, but is not limited to the following:
· Lead and manage accounting operations, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis, for the company, its subsidiaries, and related entities.
· Develop and maintain documented accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to promote accuracy and efficiency with proper segregation of duties.
· Oversee the month-end and year-end close processes for all entities, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements.
· Coordinate annual independent review, and tax reporting.
· Monitor project budgets, costs, and profitability, providing analysis and recommendations for cost control and risk management.
· Collaborate with project managers and estimators to develop accurate project budgets and cost estimates.
· Review and analyze construction contracts, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and contractual obligations.
· Manage cash flow, including billing, collections, and payments, to optimize working capital and liquidity.
· Oversee financial operations including AP/AR, job cost accounting, payroll, and cash flow management.
· Manage equipment inventory (both owned and leased/rented), and assess equipment costing to jobs and related financial reporting.
· Ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements, licenses, permits, insurance, including tax filings and financial audits specific to the construction industry.
· Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior management for strategic decision-making and business growth.
· Lead and develop a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance, coaching, and support.
· Coordinate and deliver monthly financial statements to owners and select leadership.
· Collaborate with company CPA on quarterly basis.
· Provide 30, 60, 90 day deliverables
o 30 day objective
§ Identify and document current processes and procedures.
§ Identify utilization and effectiveness of current software and systems being utilized by accounting, estimating and project management.
o 60 day objective
§ Develop documented month-end close procedures for all entities.
§ Identify monthly financial reporting package (for internal use only) and present to leadership.
o 90 day objective
§ After evaluating current systems and processes, software and month-end reporting, identify key areas of improvement and present recommendations to leadership (system improvements may be implemented over a one to three year period as agreed upon by leadership).
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field. CPA designation is preferred.
· Good understanding of GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
· Proven experience as a Controller in the construction industry, with a deep understanding of construction accounting principles and practices.
· Strong knowledge of project accounting, job costing, and revenue recognition within the construction sector.
· Experience with construction specific software and project management tools
· Excellent financial analysis and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.
· Strong leadership abilities, with experience managing and developing a team of accounting professionals.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior management.
· Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting and analysis while maintaining efficiency and timely reporting.
· Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
· Experience dealing with banks and financial institutions.
· Experience dealing with Unions.
· Knowledge of accounting and construction software, MSO365, advanced Excel.
