GENERAL DESCRIPTION/PURPOSE:

Responsibilities of the Bank Controller include but are not limited to preparation of FDIC call report, scheduled reconciliations, financial statement review, preparing financial reports, as well as assisting with preparing tax returns, audit preparations, and performing other accounting duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides oversight of bank’s accounting department and functions.
  • In conjunction with CFO, prepares and reviews financial statements.
  • Responsible for annual reporting at bank’s holding company and subsidiary levels.
  • Responsible for preparation, review, and submission of FDIC Call Report.
  • Reviews entries and transactions prepared by Accounts Payable, Staff Accountants, and Senior Accountants for, but not limited to, daily cash management, investment securities, lease accounting, fixed asset appreciation, prepaid expenses, and accrued expenses.
  • Reviews daily, weekly, and monthly general ledger reconciliations to ensure that all balance sheet accounts are reconciled with proper documentation in order.
  • Assists with the gathering of and review of information for audits and examinations as needed.
  • Upon request of Chief Financial Officer, prepares special reports as needed.
  • Responsible for monthly closings.
  • Provide training and leadership of Accounting staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP accounting principles
  • Minimum of 10 years related accounting experience required
  • General banking experience required with knowledge of methods and procedures related to federal funds transactions and bank account reconciliations
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting for the banking industry
  • Proficient with basic math and accounting concepts
  • Ability to research and interpret general ledger data
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Detail oriented with the ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Flexible and adaptable; able to work under pressure and handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • Ability to fluently speak, read and write in English
  • Basic knowledge of computer operations (i.e. email, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, etc.) and other standard office machinery
  • Ability to pass background investigation and drug screen to the satisfaction of R Bank
