Purpose/Description of the Job:

The Financial Controller will be responsible for assisting the CFO in the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the RGC Accounting Department. This position will be involved in all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecasts preparation, as well as development of internal control Best Practices. The position will deal with monthly, quarterly, and annual closing responsibilities, alongside assisting the CFO, working with third party auditors and other outside parties as it relates to general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and budgeting/forecasting.

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:

  • Assist CFO to safeguard assets and assure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal audits, controls and checks across all departments
  • Manage the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities, including accounts receivable, invoice/billing, fixed asset records, general & entity accounting, and cost accounting
  • Assist with Accounts Payable overhead invoice coding and approval
  • Assist CFO with monthly review of all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems; ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements
  • Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports to CFO
  • Improve and develop financial closing checklists
  • Manage all RGC lease activity
  • Develop, improve, manage and issue timely monthly financial reconciliations for CFO; develop a formal process
  • Support budget and forecasting activities with historical data and appropriate reports
  • Work with CFO and third-party auditors to coordinate all audit activity and ensure a clean and timely year end audit.
  • Assist CFO with responses to accounting-related inquiries from RGC management
  • Work with CFO and Controller to research technical accounting issues for compliance
  • Assist CFO to ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
  • Collaborate with RGC’s Accounting Team to identify and engage in appropriate processes to support RGC financial and accounting goals and objectives
  • Develop and document accounting Best Practices to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Monitor and analyze department work to identify more efficient processes and use of resources; assist CFO in developing and implementing new processes and technology to enhance the workflow of the department; strive to improve these processes
  • Perform any job specific related work, as apparent or assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting/finance. Education requirements can be offset with appropriate experience
  • 5 years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
  • Excellent computer skills, organizational skills, ability to analyze information, attention to detail, and time management skills
  • Continually drives for results, strives for improvement, creates trust with character and action, teams up successfully, solves complex problems and builds other people.

Preferences:

  • Experience in construction accounting is highly desirable
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred but not required
  • Advanced degree in Accounting
  • Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification
  • Significant experience with ERP software such as Viewpoint, Sage or Dexter Chaney
  • Experience working in a professional services firm is preferred
  • Valid Driver License

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Maintain responsibility for the performance and management of direct reports within the Financial Controller’s areas of supervisory responsibility: (e.g., Accounting Manager, Accounting Specialist, and Accounting Clerk).
  • Ensure RGC policies and processes are followed in supervisory activities.
  • Work with each direct report to establish goals and development plans for each year; monitor and supervise the progress to enhance their professional development and contribution to RGC.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting.

Physical Demands:

Able to deal with the physical activities associated with an office environment (i.e., hear and talk, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands)

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. through 5 p.m. Occasional evening work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel:

Travel to other RGC offices and job sites is not required.
