Overview:
Due to the retirement of our Chief Engineer, this is a rare opportunity for someone with a solid background in radio broadcast operations to oversee the radio and local television technical operations companywide and lead a smart and creative team of engineers. Vast radio and local television broadcast operations knowledge is an absolute must as this senior leader will have global oversight of all technical operations companywide. Equally important is the ability to lead effectively within the engineering department, collaboratively work with other technical groups, and be the explainer-in-chief to the non-technical teams.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
KEY JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Provide leadership and direction to the engineering team across all radio markets.
· Ensure compliance with all OSHA/FCC/FAA federal/state regulations and standards
· Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of radio and TV propagation, FCC allotments and rules, and coverage contours.
· Lead/attend meetings or calls as necessary to address the needs of the respective Local engineering teams and station departments.
· Evaluate and deploy new technologies.
· Simultaneously create and execute plans for relocating and/or consolidating broadcast facilities located in multiple markets.
· Maintains current knowledge base and strategically plans equipment and technology changes.
· Oversees and implements:
o Technical initiatives and policies
o Studio buildouts
o Antenna installations
· Has an understanding of IT technology and IT’s role in the broadcast environment and can work collaboratively with the corporate IT department to safely deploy new IP technologies and network-based equipment.
· Responsible for creating and managing the annual engineering capital budget for all markets
o Budget planning and analysis
o Oversees and tracks spending and disbursements.
· Provide physical market support and assists with projects in the markets as needed.
· Oversees the recruitment and training of the engineering team.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to communicate effectively with Senior Leadership.
· Travel is required – up to 30%

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
· Formal training and extensive knowledge of electronics theory as well as an understanding of all aspects of broadcast technical infrastructure, including audio, RF, IP, AOIP, streaming audio, automation systems, and more.
· The ability to use contour modeling software.
· In-depth understanding of telephony technologies and their application in a radio and TV broadcast environment.
· Must be able to perform extensive physical tasks, including lifting up to 75 lbs. climbing ladders and navigating in confined spaces.
· Able to multitask and work long hours in order to maintain a 24/7 facility.
· Must hold a valid driver’s license.
· Two-year certificate/degree from a college or technical school; ten years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. SBE certification is a plus.
