JOB SUMMARY
The Community Engagement Associate at Rainbow Health will play a crucial role in supporting the agency’s Advocacy and Community Engagement (ACE) initiatives within the aging LGBTQ and HIV communities. The successful candidate will have a broad familiarity with the LGBTQ community, HIV, and aging; experience in designing and delivering educational programs to diverse audiences through an aging lens; facility with email and social media communications; and well-developed creativity and self-direction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Maintaining and expanding resources on Rainbow Health’s online Violet directory, including curating relevant content and recruiting additional participants. The resources and recruitment will focus, in particular, on LGBTQ and aging-specific information, as well as other community partners, and ensuring accessibility standards are met.

Coordinating with other Rainbow Health staff in outreach efforts for Violet and other ACE initiatives through communications (e.g., email, social media) and by attending events and conferences to promote these and related Rainbow Health services to the communities we serve.

Overseeing the relaunch of Rainbow Health’s Standards of Inclusion to represent the vision for health equity within the LGBTQ communities in Minnesota, and incorporating this into Rainbow Health’s education efforts.

Developing and delivering external training for professional and community audiences related to the content of Violet and assisting others as needed with training/presentations, along with related administrative work.

Organizing events focused on older adults and other audiences in the communities we serve, as reflected in Violet, including booking speakers and handling logistics.

Developing aging-focused resources for internal staff, aging community members and their families, and community partners.

Further developing Rainbow Health’s connections with older adults and other audiences through email, social media, and other means.

Other duties related to Violet, aging services, and community engagement as needed within the agency.
QUALIFICATIONS
The most successful candidate will have:

High school diploma or equivalent.

3 years’ experience in a training/education role and/or relevant life or professional experience related to issues confronting LGBTQ and/or HIV people, particularly older adults.

2 years’ experience with communications, marketing, or related fields.

Familiarity with standard office programs (e.g., Outlook, Word, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), social media (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, X)

Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, to take initiative, and to organize their work effectively to meet deadlines and follow through as needed.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency in a second language other than English preferred.

lived experience or a passion towards our target populations (Gay/Bi/MSM/Queer, Transgender, African American, multi-racial communities that are disproportionately impacted by HIV, HIV positive people, and those engaging in risk behaviors for HIV in individual and group settings).

Valid Minnesota Driver’s License and/or reliable transportation to reach metro and greater Minnesota clients for up to 25% metro area travel, some of which may not be accessible via public transportation, and occasional travel to greater Minnesota.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is a hybrid position. Work takes place in the office and remotely, but some in-person activities, such as training and community meetings, will take place primarily but not exclusively in the Twin Cities, and the person in this role will need to attend those.

Employees working in person with clients or out of our offices are required to show proof of vaccination and attest to their vaccination status upon hire. Employees who are not vaccinated will be required to show a negative COVID-19 PCR test result once a week if working with clients or in our offices. This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by SEIU Healthcare Minnesota & Iowa. Negotiations with the union will establish all wages, benefits, and other terms and conditions of employment.
