DESCRIPTION
Qualified candidates must have one of the following:
- An associate degree with additional training or additional certification in early childhood education or a field related to early childhood education, as determined by the Division; or
- Child Development Associate (CDA) Preschool Credential
- Beginning step level in the Oregon Registry Online (ORO)
POSITION SUMMARY
To work with preschool students (age 3-5 years), parents, and student assistants in Rainier Preschool. To provide a positive role model and demonstrate knowledge in developmentally appropriate practices, lesson planning, and preschool programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be age 18 or older with a high school diploma or GED.
- Must have a background and/or training in preschool, knowledge of child development or early childhood education by meeting one of the education qualification requirements listed above.
- Must have at least one year of "qualifying teaching experience" in a certified child care center or comparable group care center with preschool age children. One year of "qualifying teaching experience" is defined as 1500 hours gained with a group of the same age children in at least 3 hour blocks, within a 36 month period. There is no time limit on experience as long as it can be documented.
- Willingness to work under the direction of the preschool instructor and preschool director/elementary school principal and to work in collaboration with the local Head Start staff.
- Willingness to learn new job-related skills.
- Be mentally, physically and emotionally capable of performing assigned duties related to preschool.
- Maintain First Aid/CPR and Food Handler's cards.
- Enroll in the Criminal Background Registry (CBR) and Oregon Registry Online (ORO) and submit all training certificates to the ORO system.
- Must be willing to complete 2 hours of training in Child Abuse and Neglect issues.
- Must be able to obtain appropriate certification in accordance with grant requirements within 30 days of employment.
- Willingness to participate in at least 15 clock hours of training or education related to child care, of which eight clock hours shall be in child development or early childhood education. If an individual has worked in the facility less than a year, the training requirements will be prorated as follows: At least 1.25 clock hours for each month worked in the current license period.
- Ability to plan and implement developmentally-appropriate lessons using adopted curriculum.
- Must be willing to complete annual trainings required by Rainier School District #13.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Basic understanding of math and language skills
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the preschool instructor in planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate preschool program which meets the intellectual, emotional, social, and physical needs of each child.
- Support the preschool instructor in maintaining records on individual children and their families within specified time frames.
- Ensure that documentation is recorded and updated regularly and in a timely manner for all children.
- Ensure that each child’s developmental progress is assessed, tracked and documented according to standards and policies.
- Ensure that children are supervised at all times with consistent and positive guidance techniques.
- Maintain with colleagues a positive and consistent approach for behavior management.
- Have competence, sound judgment and self-control when working with children, students and adults.
- Maintain a positive classroom environment and ensure safety of all students.
- Provide an effective arrangement of space.
- Ensure proper maintenance of equipment.
- Conduct and document monthly emergency drills per Rainier School District #13 calendar.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise student assistants working in the classroom.
