This role is specifically for the payments team which manages high-scale Rakuten Advertising Payments system that is responsible for publisher payments of 100 million dollars per month. This system comprises of frontend applications, backend systems – API’s, Batches, Database, Event streams etc. You will get a chance to see, learn, develop, and contribute towards this system. You will develop and present ideas, striving for an understanding of our products to continually improve upon them. We focus on being a collaborative, global organization consisting of engineers with technical depth, programming skills, and a keen eye for quality. We are actively seeking enthusiastic interns who can work full-time for a minimum of 12-weeks. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Backend development - Design, develop, and release high quality, resilient, maintainable applications that are used by a large base of Rakuten advertising publishers and advertisers. Collaborate with Senior engineers in team and manager through code review, pair programming to increase your programming skills. Work closely with our product managers, and other technical teams to build the best products we can Use tools to deploy your software on infrastructure used by Rakuten advertising. Track and manage your work progress through software development management tools like JIRA. Document work that you are doing in a clear and elaborative way using software UML diagrams. The successful intern candidate will be amenable to working in a dynamic, collaborative environment. The person filling this position must be a hands-on, enthusiastic, self-motivated developer with strong initiative and desire to succeed in a challenging environment. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities) To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Proficiency in two or more of the following developer skills: Java, Spring framework, GoLang, Databases – MySQL / PostgresDB, Unix / Shell Currently pursuing Master's, or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field. Fundamental knowledge about API’s Excellent debugging, critical thinking and problem-solving skills Proven experience working in backend development with Java, Spring framework, Databases, RabbitMQ, Kafka is a plus. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Computer Science, Engineering, or related degree in progress At the time of posting, Rakuten expects the hourly rate for this role will be between $30 - $35 per hour. Individual compensation will vary based on job-related factors, including the skills, qualifications, and experience of the successful candidate as well as business need and geographic location.
