JOB SUMMARY:
The Activities Director is responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of activities and/or events in the home or community for individuals receiving services. The person must show creativity, initiative, flexibility, good judgment, and the ability to work collaboratively with Educational Activities Coordinator (EAC).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Researched low-cost activities and free community events.
Development, coordination and implementation of activities designed to increase individuals’ community-based activities.
Collaborate with EAC to create a monthly activity/event calendar that reflects the various interests of individuals at the day program.
Oversees the implementation of activities and events of the day program and group homes.
Post and distribute schedules of all events for each month as well as weekly schedules.
Monitors for cost effective use of tools and materials
Take inventory and purchase activity supplies to operate within the RSL operating budget.
Works with individuals to develop necessary skills to function in the community.
Provides supervision for activities and outings in the community.
Demonstrates involvement with individuals and staff.
Maintains a database of and prepares reports on individuals’ assessments, participation and satisfaction.
Arrange transportation for community activities for the day program.
Provide a forum for individuals to meet and share their ideas, thoughts, and concerns regarding their activities.
Completes an interest inventory for all who can and wish to participate in community activities.
Provides information to QP’s so he/she may develop habilitation goals based on individual activity preferences with emphasis on outcomes for the individual.
Help maintain the self-respect, personal dignity and physical safety of individuals participating in activities.
Supervises Education Activities Coordinator.
ROUTINE REQUIRED FUNCTIONS:
Provides direct monitoring of planned events and/or activities for individuals as well as performance of staff
Participates in Person Centered Planning as needed
Provides direct services as needed
Maintains an active awareness of cultural diversity of individuals receiving services and other employees and works to accommodate that diversity in work, training and leisure activities
Ability to multi-task
Excellent organization and time management skills
Has an understanding of key fundraising sources.
EDUCATION AND EXPERINCE:
A four year degree in Human Services, Therapeutic Recreation, Special Education (concentration) or related field
3-5 years of experience working with individuals with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Must hold a valid NC driver’s license and be deemed an acceptable driver by RSL insurance carrier
Must have own transportation for travel on RSL business.
