Under the general supervision of the Lower School Principal, the Vice Principal will play a key role in carrying out the mission of Rancho Solano Preparatory School in partnership with the lower school faculty. The Vice Principal will also support the overall operation of the entirety of Rancho Solano as opportunities exist. This position promotes synergy while providing assistance and support to teachers by acting as a liaison between students, classrooms, parents and/or administrators.
Job Summary
The Vice Principal will provide support for the Principal of lower school, lower school faculty, and students. The Vice Principal will provide support and guidance to student behavioral and academic concerns and facilitate a student led advisory group. The Vice Principal will serve as a leader between the school and other agencies on projects related to school community, school events, clubs, and the Extended Day program. The Vice Principal will support a “parenting partnership” between home and the educational community that will foster positive relationships with families and assist with developing activities which promote parent and student involvement.
Essential Duties
- Present a positive role model for students and faculty to support the mission of the school and the Rancho 5 Attributes.
- Support the growth of the Lower School by identifying internal growth opportunities and partnerships, executing changes to enhance efficacy, and adequately promoting the program to appropriate external audiences.
- Work closely with the Lower School Principal on the daily functioning of the Lower School and help provide a safe and orderly environment in which learning can take place. This includes acting as campus safety coordinator and supporting school systems, procedures, and logistics such as arrival and dismissal.
- Support student discipline concerns, proactive behavior coaching, and student social-emotional growth during disciplinary conversations with teachers, students, and families.
- Assist in creating, editing, and distributing communications including newsletters, handbooks, summer study, and student supply lists.
- Assist in reading and editing report cards, PLP’s, class newsletters, teacher-parent emails, and communications on Blackbaud digital platform.
- Attend school and marketing events, provide tours, and provide other admissions-related assistance as-needed to Lower School families.
- Provide office and administrative support including direct oversight, scheduling, timecard management and PTO approvals for support staff members.
- Support and consult with faculty on classroom management and general school procedures.
- Support recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, scheduling, and managing substitute teachers to support all the Greenway campus.
- Work with the Lower School Principal to develop, organize and implement internal and external community events.
- Coordinate and communicate school events, faculty duty schedules, afterschool care, and afterschool clubs for all lower-school grade levels.
- Coordinate all field trips including transportation, permission forms, lunch distribution (as needed), and coordinating internal chaperones and coverage.
- Attend appropriate trainings to improve knowledge and skills, transferring knowledge as appropriate within the team.
- Take responsibility for other duties as assigned by the principal and managing director.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education related field required, advanced degree or leadership certification preferred
- Experience in a lower school setting including a minimum of 5 years preschool or elementary classroom teaching experience
- Valid/Current AZ teaching or leadership certificate preferred
- Superior knowledge of and appreciation for elementary age students’ academic and social emotional needs
- Demonstrated Interpersonal (communication, problem solving, conflict management, collaboration) skills
