Corona Heights in the middle of 16 acres with breathtaking views, the Randall offers engaging exhibits and activities that inspire more than 120,000 visitors a year to explore, learn and create. The Randall strives to inspire creativity, curiosity, and appreciation of the world around us by fostering a love of science, nature and the arts. We are looking for talented, engaging science instructors to offer programs that integrate art and science in a very hands-on way. Permanent facilities and exhibit areas of the Museum include a live animal exhibit, railroad exhibit, a woodshop, arts and ceramics studios, a
175-seat theatre, a greenhouse and gardens. The Museum provides exhibits, classes, workshops, presentations, special events, and many other interactive learning experiences for children and adults.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
We are seeking experienced, curious and creative science instructors to teach after- school outreach classes and drop-in science workshops at the Randall Museum.
Instructors are needed weekday afternoons for to facilitate programs for students in our new afterschool after-school outreach program called Randall on the Road. The after- school science activities artistically and energetically engage kids in 1st through 5th grades. Applicants must have experience developing project-based indoor/outdoor programs that provide open-ended experiences with structured curriculum. Experience working in disadvantaged areas is a plus.
Science instructors are also needed on mornings to plan and facilitate drop-in programs for families and young children visiting our museum. The drop-in science activities are geared for kids aged 3 and up to get enthralled by simple science topics presented through project-based activities.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- 2-3 years experience leading program in nature/science learning environments with school-aged children
- Baccalaureate degree in science or education required
- Provide multiple written examples of curricula of nature –based art/science program you have designed
GENERAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of science topics ranging from biology, zoology, and physical sciences.
- Ability to plan, organize and implement science programs in a fun and joyful way.
- Ability to work independently and with other staff as may be needed
- Ability to facilitate and engage students in the afterschool time with hands–on projects or activities.
COMPENSATION.
Instructors will be onboarded through the SF Recreation and Parks Department and hourly compensation will depend on qualifications that fit within two levels.
- Recreation Leader II - $20/hr
- Recreation Leader III - $30/hr: Requires additional certification such as a
Master’s Degree, teaching credential, ESL certificate, etc.
This is a part time position for 16hrs/week working any of the following shifts:
- Monday – Friday: 1pm – 5pm
- Saturday: 9am – 1pm
