Job Description
- Translate rate fillings and underwriting guidelines into precise technical specification for system development.
- Collaborate with Engineering team to ensure that rating and underwriting engine is developed to spec.
- Direct Quality Assurance (QA) team to ensure sufficient test coverage over rating and underwriting engine.
- Maintain and develop customer retention model.
- Collaborate with Marketing to ensure acquisition costs are calibrated to customer lifetime value by segment.
- Estimate collections and bad debt exposure by segment.
Preferred
- ACAS or near-ACAS with 4 years experience in actuarial roles, including substantial exposure to pricing and/or ratemaking.
- Commercial lines knowledge, including claim dynamics and the drivers influencing commercial property and liability losses.
- Expert user of Microsoft Excel, and experience using Python or R for data analysis, including data cleansing, exploratory analysis, and fitting statistical models.
- strong intuition for probabilistic reasoning and the principles underlying statistical modeling.
- Ability to grasp basic software engineering concepts, such as modularity, abstraction, and separation of concerns.
- Organizational skills, acute attention to detail, and a preference for taking a methodical approach to analysis and problem-solving.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to support collaboration with teams across Actuarial, Marketing, and Engineering.

Reporting to the President, this wide-ranging role depends on insurance and actuarial domain expertise to drive several areas of the business including Portfolio Strategy, Engineering, and Marketing.
Portfolio Monitoring and Steering
- Collaborate with Line of Business (LOB) actuaries and product managers to maintain a consolidated loss ratio estimate and forecast.
- Monitor key conversion and claim metrics to identify areas for rating or underwriting intervention.
- Maintain roadmap of rate filings and underwriting actions to achieve loss ratio targets.
