Our Business Office is currently searching for a full-time Financial Counselor to join their team! This person will be responsible to assist patients with understanding their future charges and developing an acceptable plan for their financial responsibility. Candidate will provide excellent customer service, accurate information and ensure the patient fully understands their likely financial obligation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Excellent communication skills with providers, coworkers and patients. Able to communicate with confidence the financial obligations for future services.
- Through electronic and verbal communication, verify patient’s insurance benefits and obtain description of benefits specific to planned future services reported by clinical staff.
- Using our fee schedules and the description of benefits, develop patient estimates
- Work with patients on understanding their benefit structure, the amount that is estimated to be due, and develop an acceptable payment arrangement with the patient
- Collect patient payments and establish a financial agreement at time of estimate
- Provide excellent customer service with patient centered focus
- Maintains patient confidentiality
- Performs other duties as assigned
EDUCATION:
High school degree or equivalent
EXPERIENCE:
Prefer a minimum of two years of experience working in a clinic, insurance, or business office environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong ability to follow documented workflows
- Ability to adapt to workflow and environmental changes
- Ability to multi-task and work under pressure in a deadline driven environment with changing priorities
- Ability to communicate clearly in person, in writing, and on the phone
- Establish/maintain cooperative relationship with patients, families, physicians, staff, and other customers
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology, medical billing and collection practices
- Knowledge of health insurance processing and the ability to read and interpret an explanation of benefits (EOB)
- Strong customer service skills
- Basic mathematical skills
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
PHYSICIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS
- Job requires largely sedentary role requiring one’s ability to sit for extended period of time
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
