This position will have the opportunity to be a part of Collins Aerospace's brand-new metal additive manufacturing facility in Monroe, NC. In the new facility dedicated to aerospace production, the incumbent will be amongst a small team of dedicated AM professionals and have the chance to help establish the operation from the ground up. As the site's quality engineer, the incumbent will be responsible for and support all quality functions for the new facility including machine qualification, part inspections, quality system compliance, internal and external audits, and documentation control.
This position will be located onsite in Monroe, NC.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Works under minimal supervision under the direction of the Additive Manufacturing Quality Manager with a dotted line to the Site Manager to assist with the development and implementation of program quality plans and procedures
- Maintain ownership of the inspection process during full product lifecycle, such as:
- Create all product inspection plans
- Assist with specification, drawing, and PO reviews as required
- Perform final inspections as the primary operator of optical 3D scanning equipment
- Perform other inspections using hand measurement tools, as required
- Coordinate calibration activities and, including maintenance of the calibration database and coordinating external calibration suppliers
- Maintain product quality by ensuring quality policies and procedures are followed
- Leads root cause investigations for any internal or external non-conformances
- Support machine qualification and track conformance to all customer requirements, industry standards, or external accreditations as needed (such as NASA-STD-6030/6033, AMS7032, or NADCAP accreditation)
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives aimed at cost reduction or process improvement
- Monitor and update process metrics to ensure quality, cost and delivery goals are met
- Support internal and external audits
Qualifications/Experience Needed:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience OR an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
- Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident "Green Card" holder
Preferred Qualifications:
- The candidate must be able to work effectively in a collaborative team environment focused on quality and have demonstrated both verbal and written communication skills including:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Collaboration skills
- Experience with ISO9001:2015, AS9100, or NADCAP
- Experience with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Experience using inspection equipment (Optical measurement and hand measurement)
- Basic understanding of SAP
- Working knowledge of Additive Manufacturing technologies (specifically Laser Powder Bed Fusion)
- Experience in a manufacturing or aerospace environment
