GENERAL DESCRIPTION

RESPONSIBILITIES
Fitters are responsible for the layout, fit, tack, and welding of various plate and structural steel to customer specifications utilizing supplied prints.
Fitters essential job responsibilities are to read and interpret blueprints, use math skills, fit parts according to DWG, tolerances, operate torches and welders, heat straighten, operate cranes and forklifts, and perform some assembly.
DUTIES
- Studying drawings and specifications to determine suitable material, method and sequence of operations and machine settings.
- Fitting fabricated metal parts into products and assembling metal parts and subassemblies to produce machines and equipment.
- Checking fabricated and assembled metal parts for accuracy, clearance and fit using precision measuring instruments.
- Cutting, threading, bending, rolling, forming and fitting per the blueprint requirements.
- Any other duties to meet the needs of the business, as assigned.
- Ability to work towards meeting or beating the productions hours.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS
*This is a job shop.
- Regularly sit, stand, walk, stoop and kneel throughout the work day.
- Climb and work from ladders or stairs.
- Exposure to noise, fumes and varying temperature.
- Perform repetitive motions.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- 2 years’ previous fitting experience with light to heavy steel plate in a job shop/fabrication environment.
- Solid knowledge in interpreting blue prints and engineering drawings.
- Advanced mathematical aptitude, using geometry and trigonometry formulas as well as working in fractions, decimals and in metric system.
- Ability to understand and interpret GD&T tolerances.

- Certified Welder in Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW) is not required
