Position Title: Parent and Family Resource Specialist

Position Goal: Provides direct, District-level assistance to parents/guardians relative to District-sponsored activities, events, and programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:
- Serve as liaison between parents/guardian and the Reading School District relative to the District’s educational programming and other District-sponsored activities and events with an emphasis on parent and family involvement/engagement.
- Serves as a dedicated back-up for the Translation and Interpretation Coordinator to provides translation and interpretation at year-round, family and community engagement activities, including, but not limited to:
- Needs assessments and surveys
- Classes and workshops
- Community engagement events
- Parent/Family resource centers
- Recruitment of parents for district activities and volunteer opportunities
- Ongoing written communications with parents/families
- Provide direct assistance to parents/guardians by handing telephone calls, managing inquiries and requests for assistance, and making warm-hand offs to RSD colleagues or community partners who can best address the needs expressed by the parents/guardians.
- Assist in the coordination and execution of school-based and District-wide programing with an emphasis on parent and family engagement under the supervision and direction of the PFE Coordinator
- Support the PFE Coordinator in the establishment and implementation of sustainable, effective parent/community programs, such as quadrant-based parent-teacher organizations
- Answer questions, interpret and/or translate appropriately for both internal and external parties such as staff, parents, students, and/or public agencies for the purpose of providing information and/or routing inquiries.
- Attend and participate in events as required during out of school hours, including but not limited to, parent/family meetings, activities, and evening conferences.
- Actively participate in and successfully complete any required trainings, in-service programs, workshops, and meetings with an emphasis on parent and family engagement
- Adhere to all federal, state, and local laws, as well as District policies, procedures, and contractual obligations in areas of responsibility.
- Assist with communicating schedules of parent and family engagement activities and preparing a calendar for distribution on a monthly basis.
- Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the District and of providing support to parents and the administrative team.
Qualifications:
- High School degree or G.E.D. and a minimum of five (5) years of experience with working with parents/families required or Bachelor’s Degree in applicable areas and two (2) years of applicable experience.
- Hold and maintain a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
- Demonstrated multicultural competency and sensitivity to factors impacting students and families from diverse backgrounds.
- Experience and expertise in office technologies, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Google Suite and the ability to learn new technology quickly.
- Ability to develop and deliver high-quality presentations and workshops for parents/guardians.
- Working knowledge and familiarity with community resources available to families served by the District.
- Strong interpersonal skills evidencing the ability to effectively interact and work with a wide range of constituents, including, but not limited to, students, staff, administrators, parents, and the community, evidencing high quality customer service, tact, patience, and courtesy under often stressful circumstances.
- Ability to work independently, utilize good judgment, interpret regulations and procedures, and problem solve issues involving several concrete variables in standardized situations through gathering, assembling, analyzing, and evaluating facts and other evidence.
- Superior quality, quantity, and accuracy in work product.

- Ability to maintain confidentiality and proven ability to utilize discretion regarding matters involving students and families.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time (12-month) non-exempt position. Salary and benefits consistent with the District’s approved Compensation and Benefits Plan.
