Job Summary:
As General Counsel at REAL, you will be responsible for providing the company with quality, accurate, and relevant advice on a whole spectrum of legal matters that apply to the business, and their products and services. Serves on the executive team as the organization’s legal representative. They provide educated legal advice to senior management, board members and other executives on various legal matters and instruct them on how to remain compliant with current corporate laws. They’re trusted with certain legal documents and private company information and must safely store and apply this information to help them make wise legal decisions for the company.
The ideal candidate will have experience handling statutory filings, like licensing forms, and must use their advanced knowledge and skill set to advise executives on how to handle these legal issues. May also create new entities and are in charge of properly managing the company’s intellectual properties.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Providing accurate, relevant, and timely advice to your employer and other members of staff on a variety of legal topics that relate to the business sector and their products or services.
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various commercial contracts and agreements.
- Managing and mitigating legal risks by designing and implementing company policies and procedures.
- Ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations that apply to the business.
- Promoting legal, compliance and risk management best practice throughout the company.
- Communicating with and managing any third-party bodies such as external counsel or auditors.
- Designing and delivering legal training to the business.
- Staying up-to-date with changes to legislation, particularly in relation to laws, rules and regulations that directly affect your business and specific industry.
- Liaising with senior members of staff.
- Legally filing for copyright of intellectual property
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Sound understanding and knowledge of commercial and corporate law.
- High degree of communication and presentation skills.
- Exceptional contract negotiating and drafting skills.
- The ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships across the business.
- The ability to communicate complex legal issues and risks in terms that non-legal colleagues can understand.
- The ability to work in a highly autonomous role.
Education and Experience:
- Juris Doctor degree from accredited, top-tier law school, and must be a member of the New York or San Francesco State Bar in good standing.
- Minimum 10-15 years' experience of general business litigation.
- Bar Admissions: New York or San Francisco.
- Good interpersonal skills and proven ability to positively influence people; must be capable of effectively interacting at all levels in the organization.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage high stress situations.
- Demonstrably high ethical standards.
- Courtroom experience and government prosecutorial experience a plus.
- Strong knowledge of US securities law and public experience also a plus.
