How you make a difference:
The Risk Specialist oversees the systematic process of identifying, analyzing, and evaluating situations that pose risks to the facility. Their goal is to reduce, control, and prevent practices that endanger patients and staff, while also evaluating events and trends to keep staff informed and make recommendations for risk reduction. Additionally, they provide orientation and training on Healthcare Information Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) and incident reporting, contributing to improved quality, safety, and compliance within the organization.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Review, investigate, and report on daily incident and event reports, including Serious Incident Reports (SIR) with suggested corrections.
  • Record all incidents in a tracking form, initiating clarifications with departments as needed, and monitoring daily restraint and seclusion events.
  • Present monthly reports to the Executive Management Group focusing on deficiencies and improvement opportunities.
  • Conduct investigations into employee accidents and assist external investigators as required, including root cause analyses for sentinel events.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and policies through routine inspections, audits, and timely reporting of incident trends and patient safety concerns to the PI & Compliance Administrator. Collaborate with the Patient Advocate on patient-related risk and safety matters.


Qualifications & Requirements:
Education
  • High School Education/GED required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Experience
  • Experience working in a healthcare facility required.
  • One (1) year experience in risk management in a hospital setting preferred.
Compliance
  • Must be able to pass and maintain clearance for a Public Trust Position, if working with specific patients.
