POSITION: Energy Specialist
LOCATION: Red Cliff Environmental Department
WAGE: $22.00-$27.00 per hour, 40 hours per week
SUPERVISOR: Environmental Director
THIS IS A REGULAR FULL-TIME NON-EXEMPT POSITION
JOB SUMMARY: Perform all necessary activities to coordinate, manage, and continue development of the Energy Program at the Red Cliff Environmental Department for the Red Cliff Tribe.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop and maintain Energy Program’s strategic plans and relevant project management plans and implementation of objectives, tasks, and action items.
2. Support in outreach and engagement efforts to Red Cliff community, other tribes, and various stakeholders (public agencies, universities, non-profits, and consultants) to establish and grow working relationships.
3. Lead the strategic planning, development, and execution of the renewable energy projects including wind, solar, electric vehicles, and other emerging technology.
4. Serve as the Tribe’s representative on various energy committees.
5. Continue building program capacity and sustainability.
6. Identify future potential funding opportunities for the tribe.
7. Track and manage grants, timelines, and budgets by working with Environmental Director and TNR Administrator.
8. Research and arrange staff and community training in professional development related to energy.
9. Conduct site visits and utilize site visit information to design, validate, repair, and upkeep components including layout, electrical gear, conduit locations, structural/electrical engineering requirements, interconnection requirements, and equipment specifications.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY: None
KNOWLEDGE: Experience working within tribal governments, stakeholders, and political environments, including clear understanding of tribal consultation processes and decision-making that impacts energy sovereignty. Expertise in planning, managing, and implementing projects, programs, and initiatives of renewable energy projects. Knowledge of funding opportunities, new and emerging developments in the technology of renewable energy.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in sustainability, renewable energy, or a closely related field (Additional professional level experience in public policy, energy policy, or climate policy may substitute for education year for year).
2. Experience: 2-4 years of experience in a related field.
3. Strong written, verbal and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate energy and climate issues to non-technical audiences.
4. Must have excellent computer and organizational skills as well as ability to work alone and/or with a diverse group of people.
5. This position must possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license, vehicle, and appropriate vehicle coverage as a condition of employment. Be eligible to be put on the Tribe’s vehicle insurance policy.
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Considerable daily contact will be made with the general public, tribal leadership, Program Directors and staff, consultant(s), and the Tribal Community.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The duties assigned to this position involve bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying. Items may be placed in overhead storage or shelving.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: All Tribal Buildings are smoke free.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: The ability to travel and attend meetings and trainings; overnight and out of town, both locally & nationally.
