The Shipping/Receiving Clerk performs clerical and physical tasks in connection with shipping goods and receiving incoming shipments.
Essential Functions of the Position
Assist the Shipping/Receiving Clerk Lead in verifying and maintaining records on incoming and outgoing shipments
Consult or correspond with Shipping/Receiving Clerk Lead to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, or nonconformance to specifications
Assemble, address, stamp, and ship merchandise or material.
Receive, unpack, verify and record incoming merchandise or material.
Arrange for the transportation of products
Examine shipment contents and compare with records, such as manifests, invoices, or orders, to verify accuracy
Order and store shipping materials and supplies to maintain inventory of stock
Prepare documents, such as work orders, bills of lading, or shipping orders, to route materials.
Pack, seal, label, or affix postage to prepare materials for shipping using hand tools, power tools, or postage meter.
Record shipment data such as weight, charges, space availability, damages, or discrepancies for reporting, accounting, or recordkeeping purposes
Deliver or route materials to departments using hand truck, conveyor, or sorting bins
Compare shipping routes or methods to determine which have the least environmental impact.
Handle the receiving, storing, and issuing of material and consumables
Assist and coordinate upload/download of commercial line haul trucks
Process inbound freight documentation
Receive small package freight for shipment
Unpack, examine and route incoming shipments, reject damaged items, record shortages, and correspond with shipper to rectify issues
Receive and process all defective parts returned for replacement or credit
Performs other relevant duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
Physical Demands
Required to walk, stand, sit and move about the property for long periods of time.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Performs physical activities that require considerable use of the arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, and stooping to handle of materials.
Work Environment
Indoor/Outdoor; exposure to external environmental conditions possible.
Noise level can range from minimal to intense.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
2-3 years related experience.
Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
Must be able to speak, write, read, and understand English.
Must be adaptable, flexible, and able to adjust to new or changing instructions.
Must be able to multi-task and complete assignments accurately and on time.
Possess a Valid Drivers’ License.
Security Requirements:
Must be a US Citizen.
Must be able to pass a National Criminal Background Check.
