ROI Specialist Overview:
Under supervision of the HIM Manager, the ROI Specialist is competent to primarily perform, but is not limited to, the responsibilities and decision-making tasks related to validating and processing assigned requests for health information as well as assisting with training and education of ROI process.
This role requires proactive multitasking and coordination. The ROI Specialist must embrace ReDiscovers aspirational culture of respect, excellence-focused, dedication, inclusion, strategic, compassionate, optimistic, visionary, engaging and recovery-driven.
Strategy & Planning
- Assist with training and educating administrative and clinical staff on ROI process
- Processing, completing and sending assigned requests for release of information (ROI) according to established procedures
- Tracking and maintaining receipt, processing, and completion of ROIs
- Responding to verbal and written ROIs in a timely and efficient manner
- Managing HIM office phone line and responding to phone calls
- Working closely with clients, administrative staff, clinical staff, and external parties with cooperative efforts to maintain quality clinical/medical records
- Using the Electronic Medical Record and other information systems effectively to accomplish daily tasks
Operational Management
- Maintaining awareness of the whereabouts of the complete medical record
- Maintaining working knowledge & communication of privacy and security guidelines of Protected Health Information including, but not limited to: HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, Missouri State Laws
- Thoroughly cross-trained on all other HIM tasks and responsibilities and available to assist as needed
- Good written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Acts with integrity by observing ReDiscover policy/procedures, accreditation standards, laws and ethics.
- Supports the strategic goals and mission/vision/values of ReDiscover when interacting with clients, co-workers and community stakeholders.
- Contributes to the mission of ReDiscover by adjusting work priorities and duties as needed to meet unforeseen demands.

- Associates Degree in HIM, or related field with completion of correspondences courses in HIM.
- RHIT Certification
- Two (2) years of experience working in an HIM Department or similar healthcare experience preferred.
- Understanding the function of nonprofits, specifically within behavioral healthcare is preferred.
- Strong analytical capabilities and conflict resolution skills.
- Intermediate computer skills in typing/keyboarding, Microsoft Word and Excel programs as well as G-Suite.
- Acts with integrity by observing ReDiscover policy/procedures, accreditation standards, laws and ethics.
- Self-Driven individual with a customer service focus.
- Team-Oriented and skilled in collaborating with others.
