Controller

The Controller manages key elements of the accounting department including financial reporting, cash, payables, payroll, fixed assets, taxes, and the control environment and provides information, primarily financial in nature about all Company activities that will assist the management team, Executive team and other users in making educated economic decisions about the Company’s financial situation and operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Supports and contributes to the department’s strategic goal setting process.

• Responsible for developing strong, well-documented process maps, policies, and procedures.
• Responsible for protecting the company’s assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
• Training and coaching team to excel at theirs job and their system knowledge.
• Identifying opportunities to continuously improve processes and service.
• Leads effective meetings focused on issue resolution, action, and follow up.
• Identifies and eliminates recurring problems through better process, policy, and training.
• Leads a motivated team by focusing on goal alignment, empowerment, engagement, and accountability.
• Establish clear KPI’s and goals and maintain up-to-date job descriptions for all assigned team members.
• Leads best practices implementation programs for assigned areas.
• Coordinate closely with the department’s assigned IT resources to automate manual processes wherever possible.
• Logically evaluates and improves workloads assignments to team members.
• Develops strong relationships with key operations managers and utilizes these relationships to collaboratively resolve transaction flow issues.
• Works closely with the CFO and actively supports his department improvement agenda.
• Ensures the accurate and timely dissemination of financial reports for 6 entities including, but not limited to, multi-company payroll, AP functions, multi-tenant rental income, daily cash reconciliation, as well as internal and external audits.
• Review and finalize month end closing of financials ensuring data provided to bank and outside sources has accurate information with all corresponding backup support.
• Oversee assigned disbursement activities relating to claims, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, as well as ensuring the allocation of assets and expenses accordingly.
• Oversee the activities for assigned accounts receivable to ensure the accurate and timely management of all Accounts Receivable aging components including billings, cash receipts application, etc.
• Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.
• Maintain confidentiality of company information
• Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills
EXPERIENCE:
10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Logistics experience preferred.

EDUCATION:
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree (B. A.) in Accounting, with significant accounting experience. CPA designation preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

• Advanced mathematical abilities, with emphasis on data collection, problem definition and the drawing of valid conclusions
• Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite with emphasis on spreadsheet proficiency.
• Strong general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, assets/depreciation, prepaid/amortization, intercompany accounting, journal entries, bank reconciliation, payroll, sales tax, income tax and notes payable/liabilities knowledge.
• Self-management, including good judgment, effective and timely decision making, motivated, resilience, persistence and overcomes obstacles, planning/organizing, prioritizes, sets goals, displays professionalism, quality work, accurate and thorough, promotes quality
• Meets productivity standards and completes work in timely manner
